You guys made a great How-to video. I have been wanting to learn how to do this but nobody explained it in depth. While your video allowed me to make a sketch-up of your design. Thanks. As always wish you luck and keep a tight line.

If you still have that rod know though guides are triple foot trolling guides and are very hard to find nowadays and if it's a harnell or harrington blank as well you got big bucks for the combo

Both of you gentleman look familiar, do you or anyone else who reads this happen to know a gentleman named George from Canada who would fish near the end of the pier almost daily when he would come to his home in Florida for the winter season? He drove a green F150 and somtimes would have a couple buddies with him, one was a English gentleman. I ran into him almost every year when I use to fish the pier during a yearly vacations in the late 90s until about 2012, unfortunately I lost his contrac information but he was such a nice guy to me when I was young and so helpful with helping me set my gear up correctly to catch help me catch fish. I would really like to check in with him and see how hes doing. Any info/help will be greatly appreciated.

I watched the show the other day, and it looks like a good technique, BUT, do they loose their trolley weight most of the time when they quit fishing? I'd think that would be pretty bad environmentally. I'm definitely going to try this on the Gulf, and I'll tie the treble hook with lighter line, to a swivel, so I just loose the hook, and don't litter lead all over. Thanks in advance for your answer! Tight lines!

+Marc Iwata you are correct, we always use a lower lb test line from the weight to the trippl;e hook so if you cannot get the whole rig back , only the hook breaks off. those bronze hooks rust awa on the bottom in no time. reddington costs a little more but it is a unique location and worth it.

Sadly the dood who bought the property isnt going to rebuild it but he offered it to the county for 20million but theu refused to buy it from him but we dont know yet if he will give them a price they are willing to work with but all we know at the moment is that the pier is just going to trash in the water

Do you like to have a lever drag reel, I am thinking of getting a rod and reel but not sure wat reel to get, I was looking at the avet lx, it has 20lb of drag, holds 350 yards of 30 and300 of 40, would that be good for the tarpon and kingfish
@Chuck_Carolina4 жыл бұрын
I know this is an old question, but others may ask the same question. I use a Shimano TLD 20 with 20 lb braid; it holds about 900 yards of line on it. Like this gent said - you use about 4 lb of drag, just enough drag to keep the reel from over running when the king goes. You don't lock down on a Kingfish - he will run about 300 yards on the first run. Come tight on the fish with your line and pop it like a guitar string, that vibration will typically send him on another 100 yard run. After that he's done, you bring him back to the pier, on 4 lb of drag. The reason for the light drag is if the King is foul hooked in the side. You will pull the hook if it not in his mouth. 4 pounds of drag will get a King back to the pier. I don't like this guys hook set-up on his bait. I am going to tell you about Kingfish; I know you have seen a Calcutta logo, with the shull and fish right in the middle of his teeth - that is the M.O. of a Kingfish, that is how they feed. They will take the goodie right out of the middle of the fish and be gone. I can't tell how times heads and tails come back over the rail with the goodie and Kingfish nowhere to be found. Here in NC, we want a hook in the tail too, because the big Chomper Blue fish run at the same time. Their M.O. is cut the tail off their prey and come back for the rest. On a King you just let him run himself to death. You never want to bring a green fish back to the pier. Too many fish get broke off trying to gaff a green fish. All other fish use the drag as you normally would and play them out. You will know a Kingfish by the speed it takes off at, and you won't have any head shakes, that's a King. I love the lever drag on the TLD reels - once you go lever drag you'll never back to a star drag reel again - they are so much smother by design. The reason for all the line is two fold. 1) The pier don't move. Minimum, you want 500 yards of line on a reel for Kingfish; if they will take 400 yards, you want 500. 2) If there is an offshore breeze you ca balloon fish. Blow up 3 balloons and hook them to the swivel, and let the wind blow your bait out to sea. When a fish takes your bait the balloons will come off and scatter; lock the drag down and hang on. You can see those balloons out to 300 yards or better, that is why I want 900+ yards of line. I have a TLD 25 with 1200 yards of 20 lb braid for just that. Now, you may think that 20 lb pound braid is too light - it's not. First off, I am not horsing anything back to the pier. Remember, no green fish. The TLD only has 23 lb of drag max, so in theory 20 lb braid is perfect. I drug a 6 foot Blacktip back to the pier - well over 100 pounds. Took the better part of an hour even with the drag locked down. You are going to want and run 30 feet of 30 lb mono as a shock leader. This helps take some of the stress off your main line, and if you do hook up to something you don't want to put on the pier, you can cut the leader and not lose any main line. By the way, that Blacktip hit just before the sun came up, and it took off just like a Kingfish ripping drag as it went - and shaking his head. I knew it wasn't a King fish right away.

Also was wondering why y'all don't use conventional surf rods to get your anchor out a lot further and how the heck do yall catch blue runners we cuaght one this summer on a gotcha plug most of the time there chasing bait too fast and don't even have time to look at a lure
@elroyfudge87296 жыл бұрын
we use Sabiki flys
@woahtay34294 жыл бұрын
You need to have a pure movimg faster than the baits so i suggest working it faster because jack, blue runners, mackerel etc want a fast moving lure or bait and they will immediatly notice it out of the school

You can do this with one rod to cut down on the chances of tangling.

That’s what I’m I’m saying. What you run everyone off the pier so you can have all the space you need. You may be able to do this when piers about to close lol
