Just got the protrail and can't wait to get it out and put it to use

I couldn't remember how to set up the tent on my last backpack and staked it wrong. I slept with the tarp flat without a basin. I pulled tension on the front and poked a hole in the tent with my trekking pole when the pole slipped out of the grummet. . I couldn't use my trekking poles the next day for a day hike while leaving my tent set up. I'm going to order a patch kit and tent poles and try again with pitching correctly. I put stakes in the loops on the tent corners instead of pulling out the cords and staking the cords away from the tent.

NICE amount of fly hem stake tabs. Very necessary in high winds. Plus it keeps noise of flapping to a bare minimum - so you can sleep. Had the original Contrail. The Protrail is a better design. Personally I would use the included rear end pole and TWO trekking poles up front at each side of the fly to avoid a pole in the doorway. (One tip in the grommet, one pole handle beside it. Plus it's a stronger setup for high winds. Now I use a TT Moment DW and love it.

Great looking tent. Is it possible to set up on a rocky surface when inserting the stake into soft ground is not an option?
@tarptent6 жыл бұрын
Best bet in that situation is using some big rocks to weigh down your ends.

It's a light weight option, minimalist, completely bug and water proof.

Tarptent that would be good because we have mosquitoes here that look like pterodactyls

Can I use sticks and rocks if I don't have stakes?
@tarptent4 жыл бұрын
Sure, same as all staked tents.

Very Clever Design. Can you give us the stats on the inner measurements. Also does it suffer condensation. Also what HH is the fly sheet and the floor and weight. TYVM. ATB Reeco

Little modifications?? You mean you rebuilt the tent. The zipper on the vestibule would be a must for me. It's difficult enough to close them with a zipper; trying to press that hook and loop closed from inside and get it secure would be really frustrating. I notice that's not shown in the video.

Agree. Deal breaker.

"Would be". So you haven't tried it? It's really not rocket science....

Having used this tent in essentially all weather but snow, I can assure you it's really easy. I also had hesitations about hook and loop for this. That said, I believe the updated model is magnetic which makes closing the vestibule a snap

I can't find a video of anyone actually using one of these, and my concern is the amount of space under the vestibule. Can it fit a large pack and keep it dry? Thinking of upgrading to this from my bivy to avoid pitching another tarp for my pack in the rain
@blkcpdconure5 жыл бұрын
Of course it could. Just stand the pack up and lean it against the pole.

I kept my Osprey 55 liter dry with a little more gear and still enough room to squeeze past four exit. A little tight for sure but manageable
