This is the clearest explanation on this topic that I've come across yet. Very helpful.

Awesome explanation from Captain Steve Tarrant (if I am not mistaken). Teaching is a talent not everybody has. Many have knowledge but to convey information easily is another story.

This is what I looking for. My question, why X Band mostly used for navigation or surveillance radar instead of S Band while S Band will have farther detection range?

It is a clear cut explanation. thank you so much, Sir. Can you give explanation about radar earth curvature and about beam refraction
@deckprep2 жыл бұрын
I don't have a deep understanding of refraction and I didn't teach much on that subject when I taught about radio wave propagation. I did find this online: www.radartutorial.eu/07.waves/wa06.en.html Do you have specific questions about refraction beyond the general theory?

Couldn't we use software to discriminate between targets in line, knowing our pulse length we should know the pulse length of the returning pulse or eco. If we get a longer pulse than what we put out couldn't that represent more then one target or object present?

whichis better to use/rely when in open sea and when near the shore?
@deckprep2 жыл бұрын
In a ship setting, If you have both X and S band transceivers you will usually have one radar on X and the other on S. That is the best situation. I would use the X band to see greater detail on small ranges (6NM and less) and have the S band on longer ranges (6NM and more). If you are on a vessel with only an X band transceiver you will only use that.

@@deckprep thank you so much for the response, that’s really helpful. I’m a maritime student btw and I have a reporting tomorrow and that’s a good point to take into account 😁

It is now clear why the current Iron Dome defense system radars are inadequate. If necessary, why can't cut-off multiple beam sector beams (stationary multi narrow beamwidths radiation) be created? Multiple sector beams Multiple target discrimination. Right?
