🇯🇲🇯🇲 Some of us better lower our expectations of “Rasta business”. Let’s be reminded Taurus, the son of Jimmy the Riley was born in Miami, so a least he kinda have an excuse as a Rasta spinoff. Though he obvious try to over-compensate by wearing the longest unnecessary “string beard” of any “Yard artist” and try to make every syllable in the English language into a song. Just like reggae, Rasta has been evolving/diluted to keep up with the new-age digital mindset. Gone are the days of my youth when Rasta a “uphold the covenant” : no salt diet, no meat, natural hair-growth without styling, no working for Babylon/self-reliance and reading a chapter (bible) a day to keep the fire burning. Now-a-days Rastas a work inna restaurant and a cook the sweetest stew peas with pigs tail; some are even full time “pig-farmers” and proudly proclaim “ him nuh affi work fi Babylon”. Rastas, some don’t hide no more going into a restaurant, in broad daylight and order jerk chicken or curry goat with lots of gravy. Bob Marley has always been the icon of Rasta and on his dying bed he defied the “order” by baptizing as an Ethiopian Copitic Christian; effectively rejecting the pillars of Rastafarianism which he upheld more than half his life. Can’t say I was disappointed, as much as he was “my artist”, I was not a fan (fanatic) but more so a reminder “put not your trust in mankind as he will fail you”. Rasta/Black-heart men put us on the map, least some of us forget that reggae was/is effectively “ Rasta gospel songs and protestations” coming from a place of the down-trodden/marginalized rising in protests. If reggae is dying is it because Rasta is dying? Where are the new sect of Rastas to carry on the legacy?

However, I don't get why someone's religious inclinations matter to the wider public as long as certain principles are maintained. Some people put that through in the music 24/7, others don't. I think to do this type of conversation justice you need to invite a Rasta scholar onto the panel. You guys made a great effort but have a tolerance of certain values that Rasta's don't. Your arguements are subjective and do not include the spiritual effects of Riley's material based decision making which are contrary to Rastafarian beliefs. As someone from the faith I would prefer if Riley denounce his association from the faith rather than tarnish it's standing and reputation. You guy's talk about him being an artist before his faith, well that say's everything about his lack of discipline towards the faith. Riley is not the only person who claim Rasta for career advancement then as soon as they become popular allow their Wig to slip. Please, please ,please Riley trim your locks, drop the Rasta aspect and just let us appreciate you soley for being an artist. You are a brilliant musician but you have made it clear that you are a brand. Well black people have fought over 400 years to no longer be a product.
