My gran, who's nearly 87, does these wee tours quite a lot and really enjoys them

That was great, 2 places I've been but 27 yrs ago. I worked on a film called 'Elizabeth' and Bamburgh beach was a location. On one day off I went pony trekking along there from Seahouses, on another I went to Lindisfarne. Such fond memories of Northumberland, I long to go back, bucket list!

Welcome to North East England, very fortunate to have Bamburgh and Lindisfarne on our doorstep! Beautiful places and Bamburgh Beach is one of the best in the UK in my opinion 🏖️

Cool trip mate, and those castles looked impressive! The last time I was at Lindisfarne, it was covered in scaffolding, so great to see it in all its glory. Lovely day for it too, just a bit breezy eh!?

Yeah, every time it blows a gale I'm reminded a camera upgrade is due - including one of those external mics with the fluffy thing to cut down the wind. One day...

Same! I still don’t have one either! And they look quite good for speaking discreetly to camera on buses etc. might be a good investment for you and me both!

As someone else has commented the coach is ex-Shearings, one of two that McGills have bought from them. However you've already travelled with McGills in one of your previous videos as they operate Flixbus in Scotland with a fleet of Flixbus liveried Volvos. Quite a large enterprise!

What a shame you had such a short time in each place. We went a few years ago (only from Teesside) and managed to also fit in St Mary’s Church next to the Priory, plus a visit to the shop nearby where we all bought Lindisfarne Mead. At Bamburgh we visited the Grace Darling Museum and went looking for her grave. A smashing day out, we do need to go back.
@progster999 Жыл бұрын
I live in Paisley myself. Lindisfarne has had Norwegian visitors before and a repeat visit may be in order. So I may go there. Thanx for this good idea !

"What is there not to love about a part-time island?" That did make me laugh, and, yes, this will be a great wee tour. Than you for taking us along. PS I agree that on a coach tour you do spend a lot of time worrying about being left behind and checking your watch!
@martinjones9226 Жыл бұрын
Great video as always, those KZbin auto subtitles made me laugh as Lindisfarne came up as Linda’s Farm or Linda’s Phone.
@PlanesTrainsEverything Жыл бұрын
Hi Martin... if I have the time I try to manually change them. My favourite was last year - Planes Trains Everything was interpreted as "Please Change Everything"! Ouch. Hint taken KZbin!! :-)

Nice! I love coach tours, especially up in scotland or Iceland. You arent allowed to camp on lindisfarne, but i did (with a bivy bag, no fires), and i spent the night listening to the seals. A beautiful experience. Scott, have you ever walked from Rannoch to Corrour? Im after doing that in a few weeks, maybe a camp on loch laiden beach. Make a nice vid that if youve not done it :)
@royhumphrey49 Жыл бұрын
Such a shame that both locations had to be seen on the same day! An overnight on either Holy Island or Bamburgh would have enabled a more thorough view of what is available. Perhaps time for an opportunity to attend a church service on Holy Island?

Thanks for the video, really enjoyed it. Both castle are worth a visit, Lindisfarne was converted at the turn of the twentieth century into a luxury country house and Bamburgh is very impressive inside. Northumberland is a great County to visit.

Rather hard to reach by public transportation is Holy Island with buses serving it on only a few days a week or you could walk from West Mains having checked the tide tables.A lot of bus companies have served the island over the years; United, Northumbria,Arriva North East,Perrymans,Travelsure,Woodies and now Borders Buses.Fondest memories of United which was a proper bus company running buses from Berwick upon Tweed to Scarborough.

Went to Bamburgh once, a July day about 20 years ago, and fell in love with the place - vowed to go back, but never have. I remember the cricket pitch in the shadow of the castle, right next to the sand dunes, and thinking how much I'd enjoy watching a game there in the sunshine with cold beer and sandwiches. And a fun fact: Sting and is first wife Frances Tomelty honeymooned there way back when, according to his memoir - he a young part-time jazz musician and teacher, she an up-and-coming actress. The marriage didn't last, but they've both done ok for themselves.

Hi Scott.Interested in your comment about Lindisfarne Priory and English Heritage.English Heritage is now a charity,completely separate from Historic England. They operate on a business model of trying to sell memberships hence the high on the gate price and often will refund your admission money on the day if you join .Very soon they will receive no regular funding and will be mostly reliant on money they raise from the admissions,memberships,souvenirs and cafe etc. As you are in Scotland there is Historic Scotland and if you join that you get half price admission to EH and CADW in Wales plus others . After 1 year if you renew its then free .I pay a roughly £5 DD per month as I reckon its cheap if I fancy a trip anywhere :-)
@tinx1463 Жыл бұрын
Was enjoyable
@seprishere Жыл бұрын
I think Cadw is cheaper for annual subscriptions, and is half price for English Heritage the first year (though they let me in Stonehenge free) and free if you renew. Works the same for Historic Scotland and Manx National Heritage too.

the city centre isn't too bad the few times I've been walking around (often while waiting for a connecting train or bus because there was engineering on the tracks). I've definitely seen worse cities and towns, both in England and Scotland (and of course on the continent as well). Or worse, beautiful towns you can see wasting away before your very eyes...

Northern Trains are once again this summer doing the £10 unlimited travel offer if you collect enough token from certain local newspapers. That means in theory you will be able to travel from Carlisle to Nottingham and back for £10 as long as you with northern trains. What are the chances that somebody makes a youtube video doing just that this summer?
