It would be good if you could do a video on a Tuff Torq K58 like you have done with the K46. I had mine all laid out in my office room and my wife moved the oil charge pump cover and I dug and dug all over the internet to try to find a pic of correct orientation. I finally found it down loading a service manual from a cub cadet. It’s actually on my John Deere X320. Tuff torque and every parts website didn’t have that info. TT website didn’t have any exploded views of that transaxle! I got it figured out, but this knowledge might be good for the rest of the peeps!😂

Hi, On question #3. It is very rare but i have found that a spark plug when it gets hot can open up internally and therefore not supply spark to spark at the plug. Your in line spark detector will show that your have good spark from your coil but the problem can actually be a defective spark plug. I had one that would run for about 10 minutes and then cut off. The coil was fine, the spark detector showed good spark and it turned out to be a defective spark plug that internally opened up "when it got hot" and kept the spark plug from firing. Last resort change the spark plug. Just something to keep in mind. John

@@dartvader9939 COOL! I have always wondered what was inside of a spark plug. I am sure there is a picture somewhere on the internet that shows a cut away view.. I will do a little technical digging. Ha Ha I know they have different heat ranges on spark plugs. Guess???? that they have different resistor values in them. Funny how we take all of the so called simple stuff for granted. The backfiring is also because people shut the tractor down while on high RPMs and after running engine hard. Idle the engine down low as possible and let it run a second,,then shut it off. And I see taryl just said that!! lol

My question for the next instalment of 'Ali Blah Blah' is this [and it's a good one!] - battery powered garden equipment is now the rage. Good question. Remember really old fans and hand drills and the like. They had oilers and replaceable bushings stuff like that. I wonder if even the better brands of power tools will be built with replaceable parts and made repairable. The weed eaters I've had you're better off wrapping it around a clothes pole and buying another one.

I called the electric chain saw co on my 80v brushless saw. They told me I could not buy parts! Now if a guy bought a few new E saws and parted them out. I think there would be a demand & money in that. Brushless motors & lithium ion batteries are the future! When brushless motors came out, all electric rc boat records more than doubled from 50 miles an hour to 140 miles an hour!

People will keep swapping out batteries as they try to finish the job...plastic parts warp and electric motor or some rotating part seizes...tool gets thrown to ground or wrapped around a tree. Then its off to buy a replacement and repeat. A lot of people shouldn't own any kind of tool...hire a pro to do the work.

One of the best things I did was getting a carburetor adjustment tool kit off of eBay for Weed Sniffer engines etc..., these little engines are set to run VERY lean at the factory, so adjusting a “non-adjustable” carburetor has solved many a running and starting problem for me along with using Startron fuel enzyme in the gasoline. Sometimes you just gotta take the bull by the horns! Yes, I agree Battery powered lawn equipment is definitely on its way to be huge. But there’s just something about engines that I will always like better. Love this channel! Thank you Taryl and the fellas!

I believe one of the most destructive things you can do to any small engine it to shut it down at full speed under load. Without the engine running there is NO cooling air passing over the engine cooling fins dissipating the heat from the cylinder wall and cylinder head. Letting the engine idle at low speed for a couple minutes before shutting it off really helps cools it off and greatly extends engine life.
@davidpowell3347 Жыл бұрын
Don't idle it (not enough air flow) but without load on it allow it to run a couple minutes at about 2600 RPM to blow off some of the heat

One more thing I learned from Taryl was that If it doesn't want to start when hot to check the head bolts. It might be sucking just a little bit of air. When it's cold like he said everything is compressed but when it heats up everything expands and you'll know if a head bolt is a little loose because a head bolt will be darker than the rest. Retorquing those bolts takes care of the vacuum leak when it's hot at the bolt sight. Of course you want to check the gasket if this is the case and you'll probably have a slight searching when it's hot also because of the vacuum leak. Wish I could find the video he posted on that. But If it's reving a little when hot and doesn't want to start hot, this could be an issue also. Might have a small vacuum leak from a head bolt. I always check for a discolored head bolt now also. Thanks for that tip Taryl.

I have 2 issues. I have an Areans 46in cut 22hp briggs mower. I have to put it on choke every time I have to start it. Once it's started I can take it off choke and it runs fine. What would cause this? I also have a Murray with a 12.5 hp briggs that I threw a rod on but there is no hole in the block at all. Is it possible that I can just get a piston with the right rod on it and clean the block up, reassemble and have a good running engine or is it too trashed to fix?

also if you turn the ign. back on as the shut down engine is still coasting down the engine might pop because the spark making devices on most those engines fire the plug at the end of the exhaust stroke/beginning of intake stroke as well as at the desired time of the end of the compression stroke.

The fire triangle is fuel, air, source of ignition..... Now, if the ignition is happening at the wrong TIME, then you have no ignition..... Also, I have seen weak batteries crap out, when they get hot.... when they cool off again, they act like everything is fine..... That would be more like a no crank scenario though.... I think Slippers was probably asking about a hot crank no start.... Great job as always... those are just very minor nitpicks.....

Taryl Fixes All. Some time ago, I purchased a Jonsered GTS -2228 straight shaft trimmer from a TSC store in which I purchased the no question(s) asked extended warranty. The trimmer ran as it should for about a year until it started leaking 50:1 fuel profusely. So I went to the TSC where the trimmer was purchased and told the associate about my issue with the trimmer. I was referred to the person in charge who upon hearing that I had an issue in a very smug manner stuck a pamphlet in my face and was told to call the insurance company that TSC does not deal with warranty repair issues. Also just before the Jonsered purchase,I purchased a Cub Cadet ST-100 wheeled string trimmer that the deflector shield had a rivet/bolt that had pulled through. I was told that I had to file the claim and that the insurance company “May” reimburse the cost of a new replacement deflector shield. In other words, I would have to order and purchase my own repair parts and then notify the insurance company and if they deemed the cost of the parts worthy - I again “May” be reimbursed for the repair - What A Crock!!!. After those two instances I said “Never Again” to buying power equipment from TSC or any big box type stores and their “So Called Extended Warranties”. Please take Taryl’s advice and stick with the servicing dealer. Remember, You Usually Get What You Pay For; But Not Always.
@TheIronDuke5024 жыл бұрын
Rubén. I tried one other time to get something done regarding the warranty, And again I met with a person acting like that they had never sold that brand of string trimmers believe it or not. So it was very evident that the so called extended warranty was totally baseless. So one day, I totally dissected the trimmer and did not find any broken fuel lines or busted fuel tank or really anything blatant that would stick out as a cause of the issue. Upon not finding a quick solution, I carefully bagged up all of the small parts including all of the screws, the engine casing and trimmer shaft to play around with after I retire in a few days. I thought that was best to wait before working on the trimmer again to get the hate and discontent out of my system. At least the vast majority of screws use a T27 torx bit.

@@TheIronDuke502 Did you ever find out what was wrong with your trimmer?
@TheIronDuke5022 ай бұрын
@@gregorymalchuk272Thinking Back, All of fuel lines were absolutely pouring fuel in that it was a dangerous proposition just to start up the engine. I never did get any help in any way from TSC. Later on, I disassembled the trimmer just to see what exactly was going on. Actually I still have the trimmer parts that I wrapped up in the plastic grocery bags and such and I never could understand why the trimmer that was still that new could have such a serious failure with the fuel line. I will say that this trimmer which was branded Jonsered was Husqvarna even with a branded Husqvarna spark plug. The fuel line that Husqvarna used was of very low quality to split like that. If the trimmer was used and well used, I could accept that fact, But not a brand new trimmer. It’s no wonder that so many people have started buying the battery powered tools and yard equipment. Much Less Hassle.

He also never mentioned loos head bolts when talking about loosing compression on question 3. I had 1 12.5 hp briggs flathead a month ago. Complaint was that it would no restart after it was shut off and it was loosing power while running. I checked the compression. It had 80lbs cold but dropped to 25lbs hot. He said another shop put new valves in it last winter. I took the valve cover off the side of the engine to check the clearance. It was on the money. So I started to take the head off to check the bore and valve seats. And noticed the head bolts were very loose. So I just tighten the head and run it. Compression was 90psi cold and 120psi hot and it refired fine 3 or 4 times. So I replaced the head gasket and no problems for just over a month now. I changed oil in it today. (New customer coming back from big shop down the street). This 13 year old Kid and his sister mows about 15 lawns around here. Well 16 now he mows 2 of my 3 lots for his blades sharpened. And oil changes and new air filters every month on his old Dixon 0-turn, lawn tractor, and a push mower. He also failed to mention fuel filter not letting fuel flow good. I've saw that. The fuel filter not 100% plugged but still restricting the flow just enough. Or even a paper fuel filter designed for a fuel pump being used in a gravity flow application.

You Rock Slippers. How about some more MC Hammer junk on your Walker? Do you knwo what makes the lawn mower backfire when you shut it off? Bad prostrate allowing some leakage.

Hey Taryl, great answer on buying battry equipment, but aren't you worried about losing business with less carbitrator or muffkin problems out there?

i've got an old cub cadet 1864 with the kohler command 18. if i idle it down before turning the key off, it will backfire, if i put the revs up some and then turn it off, there is no backfire. what is the problem here? too much gas at idle but right amount at mid/high throttle?

Hey Taryl, and ideas how to adjust a governor on a John Deere Krohler engine.

Genius. I learn something on every video. In uncertain times, at least a man can count on mowing the grass.

Our local Echo Service center refused to do any service work. The fellow in charge said they would only do "Warranty Work" on covered equipment. I wanted a new power head put on a unit that I had bought there a couple of years earlier. Needless to say I've never purchase any more units from them.

OR you can slow the engine down to idle for a minute before shut down. That also avoids back fire because it won’t be running so fast to pull fuel though into the muffler. My 1986 simplicity will back fire if I shut down the engine wide open but won’t if idled down

Can't the compression release couse that too?

Hey taryl , can you make gas ethanol free by washing it with water and then filter out the water when the water seperates??
