Taryl is a real mechanic, he can take a substandard part and make it a high quality part that will work much better in the long run. He just doesn’t replace parts. That’s a great mechanic in my opinion! I have a 2018 Simplicity Regent tractor very similar like this but it came from the factory with a 22 h.p Briggs V-twin Pro model engine. It’s got a ton of power for the 38 inch mower deck.

In 1986, I bought a Simplicity lawn tractor new, with a snowplow and deck, for my mom - who lived 250 miles from me. It worked fairly well for 15 years but it wasn't anything to write home about. I had no idea of what a real tractor was until I happened across a Simplicity garden tractor from 1974, used. It has a 10hp cast iron B&S motor (large enough for my purposes) that will be running long after I die.

The muffler, cable and wiring were super helpful, especially wiring. Going from a Kohler tp a Briggs on a lot of Tractors in the past was tricky for me, because of different wiring and colors, this helped simply that. Simplicity is key.

I just recently stopped by a big commercial construction job during this freezing rain storm and I asked the electrician if I could have some of the conduit fall offs lying around. He looked at me like I was insane. Let me tell ya the shit works great for exhaust on these mowers. The elbows can get a bit pricy at a supply house but I saved more than one mower with muffler extensions like that. Many years ago I made stack like exhaust pipes for my buddies VW dune buggy like that.

Great video as always, I run the Regent's big brother, a 2000ish Landlord DLX. In spite of the extra work fixing up the old deck, the cut quality if the full width roller decks makes it worth it. As for horsepower, the 18 horse Vanguard on my 50 inch Landlord can handle it adequately, main problem is it clogs easily in tall grass.

I did a refurbishment on a simplicity broadmoor. Repowered w a 22 hp briggs v twin. Originally was a vanguard 16hp which couldn't be rebuilt because the customer lost both heads and flywheel after it sat for 5 yrs under a tarp. Repower which required pipe fabrication bent outward a bit n lengthened 1 in on each side. Turned out really good. Pipe is a little tough to weld. Slow wire and lower the voltage. Also new steering bushings and rebuild the deck n spindles. Also flushed and refilled transmission and also new belts and new battery. I had to actually build a bagger for it but it turned out awesome. Parts cost was around 200 bucks. So I payed 100 for it sold it sold it for 780. Guy really loved it. The quality on the higher end simplecitys is good.

Taryl, FYI : Tale from me. Needed new volt rectifier/regulator as yours. John Deere wanted $90 ; bought it elsewhere for $45. Now, ebay has then for $9.95. Another good tip, Run a separate ground wire from the connecting bolt of the regulator to the battery neg, or a good known ground. A bad ground connection will burn out the regulator mighty quick......I put mine to the battery post bolt

This is very interesting, I'm doing an engine swap on a Murry 40 inch cut. I was going to rebuild the 12.5 engine but, its cheaper to buy a new engine than rebuild. Since I'm going to replace the engine, I figured why not go big, so, I'm going from 12.5 horsepower to a 25 horsepower 2 cylinder B&S. I always felt the 12.5 was too little for the mower, I'm hoping the 25 will have plenty of power for the 40 inch cut

Hey Taryl. I bought an old abused LT2000 Craftsman, that someone swapped in an 12.5hp Briggs. Any idea what may have happened in the conversion that would keep draining the battery. Ive replaced the battery several times with several brands. Replaced the regulator as I read is a common cause with no luck. I put an inline kill switch which works just curious of any common mistakes by backyard mechanics that could cause a parasitic draw. Thanks Taryl and I liked Sammy the "Dull" Gravano's initial presentation 😆

i had one of those dual control throttle assemblies that the cable hole was worn out on the choke lever. i just moved the cable to the other set of holes on the opposite side of the lever and put it back together. it works perfectly, just opposite of the choke on/off markings on the dash. nice of them to put holes on both sides of the lever like that. it is so convenient it must have been an accident i'm sure.

I know this is an old video, and this isnt a flip story, but i JUST got an old...like 2003 or so Craftsman with a 13.5 briggs. The deck was shot. It was barn kept its whole life just you know, grass ect. Shot as in there is more holes than metal. Rest of the mower is in absolute amazing shape, i need to give it a little carb clean, but yeah. Old lady owned it, even gave me the original owners manual plus the purchase receipt and even a receipt for a battery. Oh, for free by the way. Hadn't had a ride on before, so this is great, and me and Dad even used it to tow a couple items around the yard a bit. Gotta know for sure when and what to fix or when to give up. If i could get a deck for real cheap, i'd for sure throw one on.
