Jacob Williams It stands for tool assisted speedrun. They program actions to be performed in an emulator running a game for every frame, or every so many frames. It allows for perfect precision, rng manipulation and a few other things. They essentially make perfect runs of games with all known tricks. A lot of what they do in TAS isn't really possible for people. Both the movement precision, and the frame perfect actions are very hard to do in person. That said, TAS videos still take an immense amount of time to create. Not only is programming every input pressed in a 80min game slow work, but the person making the TAS needs to have knowledge of every trick in the game and how to do the tricks. I hear that rng manipulation is a very slow process as well. At least...that's what I'm aware of it being. I do not make TAS videos, nor have I researched the topic very much. That explanation should give you a pretty good idea of what it is though. The methods used to create TASs are mostly unknown to me, but I do know that it isn't played live and that the inputs are all automated.

What you have been watching is a Tool Assisted Speedrun. Made with Frame Advance (Playing frame by frame) and Save States (Undo mistakes). Though everything you see works the same exact way on console. There are no modifications or cheat codes in use.

It stands for Tool Assisted Speedrun. Such runs are made with an emulator with tools to find out how fast a game can be beaten when everything is 100% perfect. One tool is called Frame Advance which will let you choose what input to be made for every frame in the run (60 frames/second) which is to simulate perfect human reflexes. During the progress you also use Save States in order to fix errors. That sums it up at least. You can read more by following the link in the description.

TAS are meant to push a game to it's technological limit with the aid of software, not necessarily show off the skill of the player. There is definitely some skill involved, but the point is not "Hey look how good I am at this game". A non-tas or regular speed run is to show off the skill of a player.
