Tool-assisted speedrun/superplay (TAS) of Galaga arcade (Single ship)
The goal of this TAS:
-Finish the 8th challenging stage as fast as possible
-Shoot 2 enemies with one shot as often as possible to have a big ratio
Final score: 448,120 (with stage 32)
Hits 1882 with 1598 shots fired, 118.2% ratio
Timing:
-Extra life in 0:45
-Challenging stage 1 ( 3) in 0:52
-Challenging stage 2 ( 7) in 2:14
-Challenging stage 3 (11) in 3:37
-Challenging stage 4 (15) in 4:59
-Challenging stage 5 (19) in 6:33
-Challenging stage 6 (23) in 8:03
-Challenging stage 7 (27) in 9:31
-Challenging stage 8 (31) in 10:54
Note:
-It is possible to do a better time because I waited a little for the triple enemies to spawn on stage 4 5 6 and 10. I think I lost about 9 or 10 seconds total.
-The challenging stage 5 (stage 19) could be done faster if I did not wait for the opportunity to shoot 4 enemies with one shot multiple times to increase the ratio.
-When you have the double ship you seem to fire 2 bullets simultaneously but it is not the case, you just shoot one larger bullet. So for this TAS I keep the single ship since I do not need larger bullet to shoot enemies. (and it takes time to setup)
-I did the stage 32 as a bonus to show something different.

@@Prog61 An interesting game comes to mind. Track & Field! I'd love to see if the TAS can score 100,000 or more on the "1 round only" setting. Meaning, after the high jump, the game ends.

At 7:07 it is one of the few occasion where I could shoot 8 enemies with 2 bullets, but everywhere 2 enemies cross path I have tried to shoot them with 1 bullet, it happen many times by levels. Only in a TAS you could see that :)

I'd love to see what tas can do on a 1 million point Galaga game. This is an official speed run track and a lot of Galaga players still submit to this track. I think the world record is somewhere around 32 minutes and change.

Very nice upload! 👍 missed 2 @3:07 - 3:10, @6:20 looks like the kill was made before the bug split into 3 (otherwise it would show the bonus for killing the set of them) but I'm not sure if that lowers the % or not

Yeah, I was going to comment on the two missed at 3:07 as well. The impression I get is they weren't sure what kind of TAS they were going for-like pure minimum # of shots or pure maximum kills-but settled on the latter... after it was too late to go back.

Like I said, it's a TAS. Everything you see would be possible to do if you were a robot (too hard for a human), no cheats used. It shows you what could be done, not necessarily what can be done by a real player. Please visit tasvideos.org/ to see many TASed games. Personally, I find it really fun to see videos like these.

@@Prog61 ok so my understanding of a "cheat" is defying normal game play so in that context I think we both can agree it's not normal to take 5 bee bombs/missiles straight through a player's ship ?

For me, cheating is modifying the game to do something that isn't possible normally, like enabling invincibility from the cheat menu. A TAS is a kind of robot playing a game perfectly to show the limits of the game. By watching a TAS, you can learn tricks that help you play better since everything you see is doable in normal game play. If our brains could somehow run faster, you could do everything you see in a TAS. Another difference is that cheating is done in real time but TASing is not. It took me about a week of work to make this video. Anyway, my point is just that cheating and TASing are two different things, but both are not normal game play, so you can call both cheating as long as you understand the difference .

at 7:07 they were able to shoot more than one enemy with one bullet so it counted as over 100%

Not as far as I know. It would possibly be faster if you had 2 independent bullets when you fire, but it is not the case, the bullet is just larger.

yeah, how can 2 shots kill 8? there's no skill in modifying the game that results in better results for you. no real arcade game shot that fast or that accurate, play the real game on real settings then come back with the results.

This is a TAS (Tool Assisted Speedrun). The game is not modified in any way. The idea and fun of a TAS is to show what is possible if the player was a robot or super human. It show the limits of a game and is often usefull to speedrunners. It took me about a week of work to do this video.
