MrWint ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/M... )'s Pokémon Crystal glitchless TAS completes the Johto League including 8 badges and the Elite Four, then obtains the 8 Kanto badges before defeating Blue and Red for the final credits roll. This is done without any use of the typical memory corrupting glitches seen in Pokémon Gen 1 and 2 TASes.

The TAS instead uses luck manipulation to avoid encounters and spinning trainers, breeze through battles, and obtain Raikou as early as possible with optimal stats. Despite the run's length and complexity, console verification ( • Pokemon Crystal Glitch... ) of the TAS was possible due to MrWint's own work emulating Crystal's Real Time Clock.

It might sound very different because the "fast options" glitch allows you to set up all the options immediately how you need them, with the side effect of turning on Stereo audio

It's called RNG manipulation, where the RNG (basically a value in the game that handles "randomness" that changes very quickly as the game runs) is, well, manipulated. I'm not quite sure, but I believe the TASer did it by hitting buttons every so often. It's not something worth trying in real life, as even TASers go through a lot of trial and error doing this kind of thing.

@@the-renegade Crystal was weird because they made it so that you couldn't catch specific Pokemon that were version exclusive. Plus, Remoraid was unobtainable even though you could catch it in Gold/Silver. That's why those versions were probably better.

@@meta1429 Well, you can say the same thing with Pokémon Yellow, and other third versions...? That alone doesn't take away the experience of playing a game that is virtually identical.

@@the-renegade Platinum does the same sadly, Mime Jr., Bonsly, Stunky, and Glameow are unobtainable in Platinum, along with Murkrow and Misdreveaus

@@meta1429 So, it comes down to catching certain Pokémon on version exclusives? From my perspective, I think Pokémon Crystal was intriguing because of changes in areas, Battle Tower, Suicune event and expansion, battle animations, etc. That's generally the consensus that people have with this game.

the odds are like 1 in a thousand or some ridiculous number. and then you got to take into account the number of resets for a perfect stats Raikou as well.

It's not impossible. The odds of catching it first try, at full health, with a Poké Ball, is 0.781%, or 1 in about 128. But the numbers get way bigger when you take into account the odds of getting the perfect Raikou for this run. I'm not gonna calculate it.
