Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is an RPG made by Nintendo and is the second game in the Paper Mario series following Paper Mario ( tasvideos.org/2818M ) for the Nintendo 64. It incorporates a world made of paper and turn-based battles, much like its predecessor. In it, Peach asks Mario to help find a treasure hidden in Rogueport. When he arrives, she is missing as usual, and he must collect 7 Crystal Stars and open the Thousand-Year Door to save her and collect the treasure.
In this TAS, Reya ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/Reya ) gathers all Crystal Stars and defeats the final boss in record time, while abusing glitches that are detailed in the author's comments ( tasvideos.org/7756S ).

When does the ticking stop? 1:39:38, when the sound engine is finally reset for the chapter fanfare. Addendum: I do like how this speedrun allows you to skip past the worst subplot: The Lovestruck Piantas. Even mashing at the speed of TAS, I could imagine just losing an entire minute to their asinine antics.

The route is basically the RTA route, but with the inclusion of TAS-only precision and RNG manipulations. Expect this to get obsoleted as more optimizations get worked in, including a Kroop skip that was discovered during the creation of the run.

@@gabrielstrong7322 It is in fact not done for RNG, TASers can do subtle things throughout the run to manipulate that. If you pause and hammer on the same frame, it keeps hammering but stores the particles until the maximum EFF's allowed to be on screen is reached and it goes beyond normal memory. For some reason, this unlocks the blue gate, skipping going back for the blue key.

It's strange to see a TAS published in 2023 not open with Ultra Hammer Early from the superjump you can get from Zess T. Is there a technical reason for this? Or was the TAS started before that was discovered, and the early parts couldn't be redone? I can see that the later parts have superjumps. edit: Oh, having watched the whole thing, I see now. It's just not needed. All damage is dealt with jumps and it doesn't unlock any extra skips. Interesting.

Hammer is pretty much outclassed by Jump so much that it's not even funny. Literally the only usable Hammer Move is Fire Drive.

The any% TAS went for 18 bounce on hooktail had someone throw a bucket at him, and used koops’ ability on him to finish his first phase. Why didn’t the TAS do that in “All crystal stars”?

Bosses actually have a Power Bounce cap where you'll get forced off even if you jump with proper timing. For Hooktail, it's nine bounces, but you can get an additional nine with a 1/3 chance at each one, for a total of 18 with 1/19,683 luck. Apparently the TASer either couldn't or didn't want to get good enough luck on that part without sacrificing too much time elsewhere. This information is fairly useless outside of a TAS context, though, because every jump past the seventh has to be frame-perfect as well and anyone who plays music games can tell you that's not happening. DanceDanceRevolution's Marvelous timing is 2 frames wide and people already have a hard time getting perfect 1,000,000 scores on things.
