[TAS] Genesis Target Earth by Zurggriff in

Target Earth is a space shooting game set in the future with Earth under attack by robots. The player takes control of a robotic mech to fight off enemies and reach the end of the level.
Ultimately, the author proves an army of robots is not only no match for the player, but also that they're not even able to slow him down.

This game was special to me. I remember receiving it for xmas as a kid. I remember being amazed by the nature of the enemies, the verisimilitude of them. They took damage, exploded, and fell in a much more realistic way. I loved the forgiving nature of it, the array of weapons, the choices, and almost open world quality. I loved the radically different stages, with variable gravity. And the music was straight up dark in places. Seriously, just way ahead of its time. Cybernator for the SNES was epic to me because it was so much like this. Musha was similar. I tried so hard to save that escort ship XD Now I'm wondering if it can be done.

I feel much the same! I randomly bought this game at a used game store in the late 90’s. I only saw the cartridge when I decided to buy it. Just the white label and the logo. I knew nothing about it, and when I finally played it, the game blew me away. The story and settings and stage gimmicks felt fresh, advanced and very mature for the time. It can be super difficult, but it’s very beatable with skill and patience. Very balanced. The music is some of the best on Genesis. This game got a great remake finally, but it still needs more exposure in my opinion. The whole series really. This, Cybernator and Assault Suit Leynos 3

This game was made by the team that made cybernator. This game was originally called Assault Suit Leynos, Assault Suit Valken is what became Cybernator.

There is a way to get the HG Gun in the first or second stage, that would be faster than LG gun. TAS without HG gun?

The HG gun hits harder but is also slower. I think for a tas run it wouldn't change much but for a normal speed run it would help.

Neat, I'm only 90 seconds over on my run of the game (although still a full minute over, on sum of best). A'ight, well, you're probably landing more shots than I am, and *not* having to worry about the final hallways, so...well, duh, the TAS is faster. \o/ Edit: All right, having finished it, I'm legit surprised at how far away some enemies spawn in the game (off-screen), and will need to revisit this speedrun at some point of time, to see if I can start pot-shotting things from even further away. (Also, that Hallway was a thing of beauty, with the Bazooka shots tearing through turrets before they could even be seen. I wonder if it's possible to manipulate the "heavy explosions" to cause collateral damage onto other turrets and make *them* explode too, thus not even needing the extra shots?)

I see at a couple of points the player's life is completely depleted, but, no game over screen is activated. Is the 2nd controller cheat being used?

From the author's comments: "Objects are not considered destroyed until the value for health is below zero. An empty health bar indicates that Rex's health is at zero."

Yeah, I've had a couple of speedruns of the game where I *looked* dead, but somehow was still alive. Huzzah, no 2nd controller needed! (And only a *few* heart-attacks were had....)
