This video was a punch of nostalgia, I grew up playing both marble blast and monkey ball, thank you so much for posting.

someone help. this dude walked into my favorite game and killed it. i think he's insane.
@michaeldavis812 Жыл бұрын
It’s a TAS (which stands for Tool Assisted Speedrun), so basically all of the inputs are usually done with the help of an emulator as a tool, which the creator of of this TAS was able to use in to render the game ideally with how they wanted it to play out, which in this case was used to create a theoretical best time by playing the game with the most ideal inputs as possible, so if the player of this tas messed up, they could rewind from the part where they messed up and keep replaying that part until they get the input that they’re looking for, and for any game that requires button mashing as a mechanic, they can slow the game down to get the exact amount of a button mashing Input as possible for the most optimal outcome. Now, that definitely doesn’t mean the time in which this speedrun was completed is absolutely perfect, as there could be better strategies that we don’t currently know about yet that could be discovered and optimize the time down further.

The hitbox of the marble is a cube around the marble, so it's possible to grab gems without the marble physically touching it. In the marble blast community, we call this ramp matrixing.

I have memories of playing this on my family's eMachines desktop in 2003-2005; this is one of the oldest games of my childhood. I laughed and was dumbfounded so, so many times over the course of this video, but I easily laughed the hardest at 29:34. How long did this take? How many man-hours were spent building this IGT TAS?! I must know! Thank you so much for creating this TAS, it does one of my most cherished games proper justice.

Took me about 2 years, but how long in man hours? Who knows. A few thousand for sure.

Tornado Bowl lag at the start ugh video ruined Anyway this new world record rampage is pretty good! Whoever is the guy controlling that marble, he is absolutely showing Xelna is so last decade. Shame he doesn't have Fan Lift, else it would've been 100/100 by one person and a true god for this game. Can't wait to see the runner try and do a frame-by-frame speedrun, we might see some of the best speedruns in this game's history hands down, like Skyscraper and some bonkers-level traplaunching, maybe extra smooth gameplay and exciting edge hits and all new routes, and just overall taking over the marble's speed and spin controls and telling the Torque Game Engine: "I'm the (physics) engine now". I do recommend the runner to get better in Skee Ball Bonus (missing 3rd gem) and Eye of the Storm (wall hit towards the end), it is rather sloppy gameplay from an otherwise someone who is definitely demonstrating that he can become the next Xelna4lif. (and it's special thanks 'to' not 'too' god damn it who the heck edited this shit, nock?)
@djtiii2 жыл бұрын
Xelna's still better, probably. And I literally had Mazik proofread this and he caught the to vs too as well, which I fixed but I guess during additional edits reverted the change or something. I'm very sad.

What is "NSJ"/"NJ"/"NB" in the spreadsheet (I believe I've also seen it on other places)
@djtiii2 жыл бұрын
An NSJ/NJ/NB is Natural Slope Jump, Natural Jump and Natural Bounce respectively. You lift all keys when jumping/bouncing on the ground which affects the spin/speed of the marble. Generally, it will slow you down, but at the start of levels it gives a noticeable boost. Since its difficult to tell if the TAS does this or not sometimes, the sheet was labeled as such for transparency.
