Mario was a good man, with good values. And a system, save the princess, get a cake, do it again. After a few runs he got tired of the same old same old, so he tried to optimize the rout he took to save Peach in as little time as possible. It was fun, for a little while, this eventually bored him too, he eventually found out he could break some rules. His fire flower could fire faster, he could start with a shell on to protect him, he could increase his speed. He even found out he could become huge and invincible. He played around with these for a long time. As time passed, things stayed the same with good old Mario. Always the same, not different, every day a repitition. Things started to lose purpose, the cake, not as sweet, the lava, didn't have the same burn and heat, the green hills just a bit greyer. Even the princesses face, less beautiful and shocking to see. Mario was almost ready to accept this purgatory. "Was this a punishment?" He wondered. "Did I-a mess up in a past life?" When he asked these questions, another one came to his mind: "why have I-a not tried to leave?" Mario took account all of the past things he had done done to decrease his time. But his mortal soul could not sustain all that power. He needed more energy to sustain his dream of freedom. All the monsters Bowser created were soulless. And Bowser's soul would not stay long enough for him to grab it. Peach however, was of no value to Mario anymore, and she was weak to him. After every run, he'd kill her, and take her soul. At first, his morality stopped him. "Should I do this, this isn't right, she's a person, she deserves mercy." But after that he realized that she would always thank him in the same way, no change in her routine. So then he made up his mind to kill her, that was the only time she was any different. He ran the route over and over again, taking Peaches soul, using it to power himself up. Mario began to lose sanity after he had all the effects that would help him. He went to bed after the run , tired of it all. He was conscious after closing his eyes though. All he could see was black. Red words then appeared in his vision. "THIS IS NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN BREAK. YOU CANNOT LEAVE." Mario awakened, silent, his eyes welled up with tears. Then, whether it be from realization or hysteria, he laughed. Laughed to God and the heavens who damned him to the Mushroom Kingdom. "THAT'S A SO NICE!"
