Playing This game always had me having an unsettling feel to it, I quite cant describe it… it felt so liminal/surreal and was also very hard to play

i was looking for this kind of comment. Unsettling is a good word to describe it. Nice to know that other people feel the same about that game.

For me, the screen crunch and music is definitely unsettling compared to other versions. Is that the reason why it’s like that for you?

I got this game for Christmas back when I was nine. I played it everyday because I had nothing else to do. At the time I couldn't read whatsoever so figuring out what I needed to do was quite a hassle sometimes. I remember feeling creeped out by this game as well, it starts off nice and happy but then it gets dark and bizarre. I think it's the music on certain levels. I did eventually complete it but I never played it again. Even watching the play through brings me back. Good memories best left in the past.

omg finally I'm not the only one..here a few examples from other games that felt the same way to me - Kirby and the amazing mirror - Catz - SpongeBob SquarePants Movie + Friends in Freeze Frame Frenzy - disneys Magical Quest 3 Starring Mickey & Donald

Not sure why the final boss music plays in a lot of these levels, but it's fitting considering how difficult they all are
@preyter34402 жыл бұрын
I always wondered why the music in each level sometimes cuts out. It happened so often where a certain instrument just cuts out from beat then a few seconds it comes back in.
@astonquintanilla93012 жыл бұрын
That’s because video games can only play so many sounds at once, so when a music track is playing too many sounds to make up the music, and the player is making sounds too, it overlaps and removes one of the sounds from the music to fit in. This is due to there only being like 8 sound channels for the gba or something
@retrochristmas73292 жыл бұрын

This is how this game could look if it was released on the SNES. SNES like GBA was capable to run almost all graphical content from original PS1/Saturn/Jaguar/DOS Rayman and only thing where SNES and GBA PPUs were not enough were 255-color tiles. Only significiant change that Ubisoft had to make if it wanted to release Rayman on SNES is just reducing 255-color tiles to 15-color tiles. I know that the real SNES Rayman prototype was completely different game than the most common version of Rayman, but i am sure than SNES also could run whole this game and only part of the game's content which had to be reduced (if Ubisoft released PSX Rayman on SNES) are number of colors per one tile and number of all colors which could be displayed on the screen at once - just reduction the palette to 254 colors on the screen (127 colors per active tiles (sprites) and 127 colors for 127 colors dummy tiles) (from all 32768 colors possible) and every tile internal palette from 255 to 15 colors! PSX Rayman 1 from 1995 was not an exetremely heavy game for the SNES hardware - it was easier to render than: -Donkey Kong Country trilogy by Rare, -Toy Story by Traveller's Tales, -Mickey Mania by Traveller's Tales. If these games were successfully optimized to fit in these tight SNES restrictions, why PSX Rayman was not?! If this game was released on the SNES (in 1995 SNES was still more popular than PSX and even in year 1995 or later (1996 or even 1997) almost half of the top SNES titles were released - early SNES games made until 1993 were usually very poor) THIS COULD BE ONE OF THE MOST MEMIORIABLE AND BEST RATED SNES TITLES! This game's graphics and audio content fits almost perfectly to the SNES hardware. If it was released along with very similar PSX/Jaguar/Saturn and DOS variants in 1995, this SURELY could be one of the mostly remembered and bestly rated titles along with DKC trilogy by Rare, Yoshi's Island by Nintendo, Kirby's Dream Land 3 by HAL Laboratory and Toy Story and Mickey Mania by Traveller's Tales! What a shame that Ubisoft skipped SNES while releasing Rayman!
