Super Mario Kart is the first in a popular series of games starring the Mario cast racing go karts. This run aims to get record times in all tracks at 150cc difficulty. This is achieved mostly by jumping straight into walls, bottomless pits, and lava, among many other things. Mushrooms are also used frequently due to their mysteriously friction-free propulsion powers.
A slightly modified snes9x is required to play the SMV movie. The end-game ceremonies for all but the last cup are skipped by resetting the game. This feature is not available in the default snes9x packages.

This is not a hack. The game itself has not been modified at all. You're correct on the "using tools" though. TAS runs are to show off a theoretical WR. So this is not legit, but the game has not been modified

its because this is a Tool-Assisted Speedrun. The player has unlimited amount of save slots. basically, you save the game at the moment you get the mystery box. then you simply keep loading the game until you get what item you needed. same with how he seemingly manages to execute all the tricks. but at the back end of it, he probably tried doing it countless times until he gets the perfect run.

The probability of getting all mushrooms on the first track alone was 1 in 1,048,576... or at least it would have been if the random number generator hadn't been so easy to trick...

In this version of Mario Kart if you press I think X it stops the random selection. If you’re experienced enough you can stop it at the item you want. I was often able to get what I wanted by timing it correctly. This is also a TAS so even easier
