Monster Rancher 2 is the second installment of the Monster Rancher series, released in 1999 for the PlayStation. Its main sales pitch was that players could generate monsters from any CD they could put into the console. Said monster is then taken care of, and occasionally participates in tournaments in order to gain fame.

I worked at a Blockbuster Video when this game first came out. My manager took one of the rental Playstations back to his office and set it up. He would play this game constantly using the hundreds of PS1 games we had for rent to get new monsters. I seem to recall you could use music CD's too. But he had this massive catalog of monsters and would just constantly be playing for his entire shift.

One of these games, I recall that the Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas album had a superior monster. I'm sure GameFAQs has more info. To this day, I keep my eye open for it when I'm in used CD stores.

As someone who researched this game a lot with my best friend back when the game first came out, I can appreciate just how ridiculously fast these battles are. For those who are unaware of this game's battle mechanics, the author had to manipulate loyalty, hit rate, crit, AND enemy attack chance all at once, which is just insane to even think about.

Survey is flavor/world building only. It has no effect on any condition in the game, Especially the UFO survey question, which is entirely a myth as being a condition for Metalner unlock.

I had a bootleg copy of this when I was a kid. It did NOT work. Most cursed game I ever owned. I don't remember any of this stuff at the start. It started right with a couple of monsters, usually only worked for like five minutes before crashing with horrible noises and graphics... man... I really wanted to play it!
