The stages were such a great addition with walls and objects in the middle of the stage. The mall and the beach are my favorite stages. Starting in different spots of the stage depending on where the fight goes is amazing too.

Tekken 4 Bryan was my favorite incarnation of him, storywise. He wasn't irredeemably evil yet, and it's hard not to sympathize with a man literally fighting for his life.
@WickedParanoid2 жыл бұрын
"He wasn't irredeemably evil" A corrupt, scummy cop who got shot after his shady deal went south (all pre-cyborgization)? You sure about this "not irredeemably evil" part? He was like that from the get-go, and even way before! Can't disagree with your "fight for his life" and "favorite incarnation" points though.
@JunKazamaFan2 жыл бұрын
@@WickedParanoid Don't get me wrong, Bryan's always been an evil one (even here, this is the game where his "pummel opponent's face in" win animation debuts in), but he's a lot less one-note pre-Tekken 5. Him calmly listening to Bosconovitch explain his plans and initially agreeing to go along with them would not happen in the present day, I don't think.
@WickedParanoid2 жыл бұрын
@@JunKazamaFan I mean, somebody basically offers you unlimited power. Why not stick around until they come through with it? Plus, wasn't Bryan not really in a condition to put up a fight (possibly still not exactly awake from that artificial coma), especially with Yoshi around? I still think it has more to do with him being practical, somewhat calculating and somewhat aware of the situation he's in moreso than him being redeemable. If true, then he was, indeed, way more nuanced back then, but I still think he was beyond salvation from the get-go. A nutbar with a Machiavellian streak, if you wish.
@JunKazamaFan2 жыл бұрын
@@WickedParanoid True, Bryan would have to be pretty foolish to turn down the good doctor's offer, and he had previously exhausted the last of his energy to get payback on Dr. Abel for abandoning him and leaving him in this weakened state to begin with. He MIGHT could have taken out Bosconovitch if he really felt like it, but a fresh Yoshimitsu would have no problem putting Bryan down in his condition. That seems like a pretty accurate assessment, and basically what I was trying to get at in a roundabout way, I think. The way Bryan's Tekken 4 prologue is laid out makes him come off as rather intelligent and calculating, making one want to see him succeed in the end. I can't say I ever imagined him turning over a new leaf or anything, since they basically did that story already with Marduk to King. To me, it just feels like his ending in this game could have been used to add a bit more depth to his twisted and psychotic portrayal. Say, for example, Mishima Zaibatsu comes seeking revenge on Yoshimitsu for raiding their vault and descends upon him, Bryan, and Bosconovitch, which is what stops the latter from going through with his original plan and forces him to install the perpetual generator. This could set up Yoshimitsu and Bryan as unlikely allies as they target their shared enemy for the fifth tournament due to their own personal desires. Afterwards, the betrayal story could be done for Tekken 6 to give it more impact, either following Bosconovitch giving him that new body or failing because his current one is too complex to do that sort of work on. Kunimitsu II could also be added into their story to give it another dimension. That's just off the top of my head. Long story short, I do agree that Bryan has never been meant to be a "good guy" in any sense, but before Tekken 5, I felt like "cause destruction and laugh at it" was a part of his character, not his entire personification.
@Cr1ms0nRav3n2 жыл бұрын
I think what the original poster meant was, Bryan didn’t feel like a lazy looney tunes one note evil character, the same way Paul didn’t feel like a Neanderthal who wanted to fight aliens in space in the successor title T5. T4 and previously T3 tried to take its characters seriously and flesh them out. I still get chills watching the T3 intro with Heihachi landing in Mexico with his Tekken force and witnessing Orgre’s carnage, then it’s a montage of Paul beating up bikers behind an alley with a subway train overhead, King lifting weights with Armor king in the background, and Lei running from a chopper in what looks like a scene straight out of a Jackie Chan super cop movie. THIS was Tekken. Now it’s just a directionless exaggerated Saturday morning cartoon in today’s age. Less martial arts inspired designs overall with Alisa and Chloe type of characters, and more and more heavy handed anime tropes and fantasy styles. Can anyone tell me what Claudio is supposed to be fighting with? What style?......exactly. Bryan being drunk on his own power and laughing maniacally has always been a thing sure, but it felt more subdued and down to earth compared to T5(I would say T6) and onward. I didn’t help that in T6 his voice actor changed, and his more iconic sinister laugh became this comical “yeeehooo!” It’s also not coincidence that it was T6 where players started to groan at the direction of certain new character designs. Lesson of this story, dont fix what ain’t broke. Change for the sake of change isn’t always a good thing. These characters had layers to them, but now in modern Tekken they’re just a one note side show. And the story if we can even call it that at this point is in tatters, with no consistency or worth anyone trying to follow anymore.

I've always thought Tekken 4's innovation was underrated. The background and music are still great to this day. But I still remember that the old players in the community criticized the character model for having fewer polygons than Tekken TT, but they didn't see Tekken 4's hair flowing more naturally, and the texture was not as plastic-like as in the past. So I regret when Tekken 5 returns to its old style under pressure.
