Tascam 234 Syncaset restored to original condition

A recently purchased Tascam 234 Syncaset 4-track cassette recorder restored to original condition.
After more than 30 years the unit was in practically like new condition, only the drive belts, the idler tires and the pinch roller were replaced because they were literally melted leaving only sticky residues.
I used an identical machine back in the 1980s for my early electronic music productions, the tape plays a track from my first album "Stahlruine" from 1985 (available on Bandcamp: controlvoltage.bandcamp.com)

Perhaps this became the portastudio later. I like it much better like this in the form of a deck

The 234 was the third in the Teac/Tascam cassette based series, released in 1984 shortly after the 244 and the 144, which was the first Portastudio in history, released in 1979. I also widely preferred the 234 above the Portastudios for his dimensional compactness (the technical specifications are identical to the 244) and the 19" rack format. Later Portastudio models were cheaper built and some of them also lacked the double-speed option, a very important feature of these early machines.

@@robertoraineriseith If it looks much more robust, the deck format than the plastic porta. I did not know that I brought the double speed function, very useful surely

@@robertoraineriseith you forgot the 133 which also has double speed and 4 tracks but uses the 3rd and 4th tracks for a cue channel. can also play at 1/78 too

@@aronslegogbcs1057 Yes, but whether I am correctly informed the 133 was not a conventional multitrack recorder intended to stand as an alternative to multitrack studio reel-to-reel recorders for musical purposes. It featured 3 tracks and was intended for use in audiovisual show or presentations.
