Love the video. Thank you so much for doing all this documentation. I have a question. I was disassembling my porta02mkii and trying to be careful removing the headers that connect the channels to the playback/record head. Unfortunately, I slipped pulling the header for channel 3 and one of the wires came loose from the header connector. They are so small. Do you have any recommendations for reattaching the wire to the header connector or replacing the connector?

This is a great tear down Tetrakan! I have a Porta 02 mk2 that on teardown looks mint, no obviously bad components upon inspection. I bought it and I reckon it's only been used a couple of times. I have no playback signal - all inputs / pre's and transport working correctly. It's also recorded my inputs as I tested that on another loaned machine but, not getting any signal playing back from tape. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hey, thanks for the breakdown. Ive had this four track for a couple years and while recording with it today, i noticed there was an issue with playback. I recorded keyboards on track one and attempted to record on the second track, and when i finished recording, i went to listen and noticed it didnt record anything. I recorded on the second track again and it did the same thing. I recorded on the third track for good measure and...nothing. The red led light near the record button is on when I record and the led lights near the faders light up and show audio is going in. Any ideas?

hey there, you seem like you've got a good grasp on these things. I have a Porta02 that when recording records an odd popping sound on channel 2. It's not a pot scratchy sound, but rather only happens while recording, almost like a vinyl pop sound. Any ideas?
@Tetrakan Жыл бұрын
I'd start by identifying the electrolytic capacitors associated with that record amplifier using the schematics available from my blog. If replacing those didn't resolve the issue, I'd look at replacing any semiconductors in that gain stage, especially the opamp since popcorn noise, as it is called, is often symptomatic of faulty semiconductor components.

Great videos! I have this same unit, but have not been able to get it to work. There is a problem with the auto-stop function which prevents the tape from playing for more than about a second at a time. I've been looking around for possible solutions, if you have any ideas let me know!

Thanks for sharing this video. I just received my first Porta 02 and your guide is very helpful. I was wondering if you have a good source for replacement belts. Thanks.

Thanks for posting such in-depth content about rape machines! I just opened up a Porta02 after hearing a light rattling inside. As soon as I did, the wheels and rod from the tape counter fell right out. I don’t see any other loose pieces but I’m not sure how to reassemble it. Is this something you could help me with?

Update: I managed to get it back together but the leftmost wheel likes to spin freely. Any ideas there perhaps?

Hi Tetrakan, I purchased a Porta 02 today but I have no signal coming through input 2 line or mic. Playback signal is fine trim and pan pots working as they should. Do you have any idea what could be causing this? Faulty jack input or something else maybe?
@Tetrakan2 жыл бұрын
I suppose you're could be something wrong with the preamp stage but a broken connection at the base of the jack socket seems most likely, yes.
@LozMyKeys2 жыл бұрын
@@Tetrakan can the jack inputs become faulty even if there isn't a break in the circuit? Theres no noticeable break I can see solder looks good. I wouldn't know here to check the preamp stage :/ Edit: It might be worth noting that on playback, I'm not getting a stereo signal, only on the left side but the mono button works to bring it into both headphones.
@Tetrakan2 жыл бұрын
Yes it's possible for no signal to pass despite there being no obvious visual indication of a problem. There are two videos I made recently which are somewhat similar to your problem and also go a long way to demonstrate how I diagnose and fix electrical issues, so I recommend you watch those then come back if you have more questions Here are the links kzbin.info/www/bejne/nIfWYXSCrqqIg7s and kzbin.info/www/bejne/najVaaGLdtCXg9E

Hi, I've got a Porta 02 Mk II with a missing power on/off (sliding) switch. Could not find any replacements online. Do you know the specs of that switch?
@Tetrakan2 жыл бұрын
I don't, what if, meantime, you just remove the switch and solder in jumper wires so the unit turns on as soon as you plug in the DC adaptor?
