I had to do multiple repairs on one of these: motor, a couple chips, that transport spring, bad joints, capacitors. They're impressive when they work but if they don't they're a fiddly hell lol . Great work on your part, really enjoying the videos

My first recording device after bouncing between two stereo cassette decks though a mixer. Put me into debt as a young man, but didn't like the reproduction, especially on cymbals.

I have a 4 x tascam VU meter modded with orange LED's that sits on top of my sanusi 4000. It is in the switched outlet and I run the meters off the + out speaker B terminal L /R.

I've always thought those D cell batteries were too expensive...how about installing a modern lithium battery...shouldn't be too hard Trevor.

It does not run off batteries, unless you plug it in. It does run if you actually have it running on batteries. But off the batteries, it is useless. Unless, of course, you plug it into the wall or a power supply. With no power, off batteries, it sits dead. Why you said it runs off the batteries I have no idea. Otherwise, you do just fine in the video.
