Vlad Vexler made an absolutely spot-on video about this and I highly recommend it. By the way, "water in missiles" is a mistake in translation. There is corruption with military officials and soldiers stripping materials from rockets, but they're not necessarily literally putting water in the rockets. Saying something is filled with water is a Chinese way of saying something is out of order, usually due to corruption. It's like when Americans say something has "shit the bed" when it breaks. Not meant to necessarily be taken literally.

That is correct. It is common in Chinese to refer to the practice of falsely claiming the quality of a product as "mixing in water". For example, the company may advertise they use 100% high quality steel to make a product, but in actuality, they use only 70% high quality steel and 30% cheap steel. In Chinese, you may call the company mixing water in their steel. You may even say the steel is made of 30% water.

@@xdxdsheep There's only one problem, steel is steel, and modern steel manufacturing procedures hasn't changed since the 1970s (using an electric arc furnace), steel along with concrete is really cheap to make (which is one of the reasons why the modern world is even possible to begin with). There's really incentive to cheap out on steel, if corruption were to occur it be embellishing funds. One would need to pull a conspiracy on the entire workforce to really work out.

I found perun's video "how corruption destroys armies" to be very insightful. Truth is, like russia, we won't ever find out how deep it goes until "it kicks off." hoping for Russia levels of corruption and military incompetence is not something i'd plan a strategy around.

The one obvious corellary between Russia and China is that they both carry on the legacy of pervasive, inescapable communist corruption. It's how all such nations work. That doesn't guarantee specific outcomes in regard to China's military, but the idea that it wouldn't be just as rotten as the rest of their government is laughable.

Another possibility for the "water" report is that their ballistic missiles are fueled with kerosene. I have no trouble believing that a General would sell regular kerosene ($2 per gallon) to the rocket force as rocket grade kerosene (about $100 per gallon) One of the reasons rocket grade kerosene is so expensive is they remove every trace of water , because it would damage the engines. So if you have regular jet fuel or kerosene sitting in ballistic missiles , or the fueling systems for those missiles , you have a massive and very expensive problem to fix.

One aspect that clearly has not been corrupted is the amount of training and expertise used to achieve synchronized parade marches.
@kiabtoomlauj6249
@kiabtoomlauj6249 10 ай бұрын
There have been only three nations in the world with next level, synchronized parades: Nazi Germany, North Korea, and China. Nobody should even waste time trying to match these three nations... because they are the most experienced, when it comes to these choreographical public parades. As a side not, all three nations have no doubt such beautiful & precision driven public displays are indicative of their armed forces' actual fighting prowess. It's weird how some grown men think about reality... America, too, could start those synchronized military parades & rituals... if our Great Leader, the genius Trump, were to rule for 8 - 12 more years, straight. He loves to have such beautiful marches taking place in front of him, too, he says (after having seen such rituals in France, Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, etc). Imagine hundreds of F-22 & F-35s & Apaches flying overhead.... and thousands of Abrams & Bradley's parading through Capitol grounds/Pennsylvania Avenue.... with 10,000 US Marines doing their exceptional Silent Drill acts .... and with 100,000 Army, Navy, and Air Force soldiers marching in locked steps.... followed by hundreds of ICBMs.... Trump would be beaming with the biggest of smiles, with Fox News broadcasting 24/7 for years straight!

A few years ago, NORINCO sent some wheeled armored vehicles to be tested by the Argentine Army, they were supposed to be amphibious and in the first test in a swamp they sank, the exhaust pipe heated the doors and they did not close properly, apart from that they couldn't touch each other. They were supposed to be demonstration vehicles, with better quality than the standard ones. It was learned that the materials were of poorer quality because the middle managers were profiting from the company.
@ridethecurve55

There's quite the gap in your story, here. How was it learned that the middle managers were profiting from the company? Why should demonstration vehicles be a better quality than the standard ones? What the hell is 'NORINCO'? Don't quit your day job to become a storyteller.

@ridethecurve55 That’s a lot of critiquing on a KZbin comment there bud. It doesn’t matter how the middle managers were found, and it’s pretty self explanatory to anyone with a greater than childlike intellect why you would want your demonstration product to be the best possible version. Btw, if you don’t know what norinco is that’s a you issue because it’s mentioned in the video and many other (there’s also the fact that Google exists and the context clearly states it’s a group that sells weapons)

@@mcarrowtime7095 Yea but how do you know this is true? I've been working with some UAV for the military in north america. and I can tell you that quality is bad, why because most of demonstration are rushed in development. and finally when you try to demonstrate multiple launch or autonomous, it actually most of the time failed. Example of the work I was doing was you are supposed to remote guiding your UAV with long range distance up to 10 km... during the final phase testing, range was 500m... Demonstration always less quality and less capable than final product. as most of project, it's always under estimate, under staff and sold too much!!. Here, people just try to discredit China. Why do we always talk about China? here corruption is everywhere. Have never seen any report on Corruption of US. 50 billions of $ sent to Ukraine and Ukrainian general admit that they have received only about 20billions of weapon.. where's the rest? Someone should definitively do a report on this.. but strangly, this never happen, but gosh we know everyting about Russia and China.. when video always focus on some countries specifically, you know it's rigged..

As someone from Mainland China, corruption is never an issue for any Chinese official, military or not. everyone is corrupt in China, if you do not participate in the circle, nobody will promote you to an official position, from low rank to high rank. for the Chinese, talk about controlling your subordinates, it is always easier, or you will feel safer when you know your subordinary officer has some dirt in your hand, that is the result of a thousand years of internal bureaucracy development, nobody in this world masters this better than Chinese. and China society is officer-base society, which means you social status is always judged by how high the rank of your government official position is, within this society, everyone is corrupt, absolutely. all these corruption charges are just excuses to remove political in-fighting losers.xi himself has the mindset of the normal Chinese emperor, which really enjoy his official in-fighting, this is a way to show his political controlling ability. it is very difficult for non-Chinese to understand, there are tons of books in China telling you how to become a "good" officer, and how to control your subordinates. all these aside, it doesn't mean the PLA is not willing to fight to defend their social status, aka their official status, which is protection. the worst thing is not that you got demoted, it is after your officer status drops, you and your family will be erased by your political enemy. so when you look at news about Chinese officials, one key thing is not who got demoted, it is who got kicked out of the party, that is a sentence for this dude never has a chance to come back.

Exactly this, I have read enough books to understand how China works, of course first hand experience is something I am lacking but this is that case. To understand that you have to felt it on your own, like we did in Eastern Europe. Everyone is corrupted so that when it is time to purge one faction it is easier to play corruption card for society. West do not understand how it works as there is money myth, especially in US. In the same way we would find what true Roman was super strange to ours todays concept.

I’m no card player at all, literally except for solitaire and maybe go-fish, but I often wondered why it was such a big deal to be wary of mixing gambling with the military (or any similarly hierarchical institution). That quote about ‘never putting oneself in the position of taking from your men’ was basically an epiphany for me. Thnx, brother.

“To fill with water” doesn’t literally mean that it’s filled with water. It means that it’s filled with a cheaper fuel than it normally takes. To fill with water means to fill with a “cheaper and more accessible” thing.

I was a U.S. Missile Launch Officer. Nuclear alert missiles are solid fueled. Liquid fuels would have to be loaded right before launch. That’s a very bad idea due to minutes being the difference between a launched rocket and one destroyed in its silo by the enemy!

A friend of mine (Chinese American who does high end collectible business in China) was told of a meeting (this was 10-15 years ago where a bunch of generals were gifted BMWs loaded with gold. So much gold in fact that the cars would sag under the weight... Again, how true the story is I do not know and how much has changed? Not sure. But graft in the Chinese military is a huge issue

First of all almost every top CCP official is corrupt to some extent. That by itself doesn't matter; what matters is the FACTION they support...and if that faction is currently the dominant clique. Xi ping isn't removing officials because they are corrupt, but using that inherent corruption as an excuse remove political enemies ( The biggest rival faction is the Jiang Zemin faction ) Corruption is all good in the hood as long you're tight with Xi When you asked is it a feature or a bug ? It's a feature

@user-zu1ht4ji2m what you mean to say, is that the source could be lying. sometimes sources make stuff up in intel world, to gain favors. and even if the source is not lying, then its about how farspread the practice is. and even if its widespread practice, have they already fixed it by re-checking all missiles and changed the practices.

Silly question, but how do the missiles keep from collapsing when the fuel tanks are empty? Some liquid-fueled missiles need to be filled in order to maintain structural integrity when moved into position and filling the fuel tanks purges the inert filler. Speaking of inert fillers, sometimes nitrogen purge is used to ensure that no volatile vapors are present until launch time.

counter point - the gilette super shave introduced in the 1940's was the best razor ever invented. Instead of having to unscrew the entire head to de-clog all the hairs, you just twist the base of the handle to operate the 'butterfly' mechanism of the razor - you'd only need to slightly open it to allow all the loose hairs to be flushed through.

I've read somewhere else that "filled with water" is an Idiom for anything that got filled with a sub-par stuff. So the rockets are fueled...with something that even burns but I wouldn't take any bets on whether or not a particular missile can make max range... or even half range, or doesn't explode during launch.

I used to work on aircraft. A big problem with aviation fuel is it can become contaminated with water. We often used to have to take samples out of the wings to test for water contamination. It seems likely to me, what was meant was they found water contmaination in the rocket fuel samples. Doesnt mean the fuel was all water. Its a normal problem. Thats what the confusion was i think. But people that dont know about this stuff would see that and think whoa the rockets have water in them instead of fuel.
