Joanne creating tension with Alex was honestly one of the most stressful, awkward things I've ever seen, and yet it was also hilarious
@SquiresIsle7 ай бұрын
The opening bit about Alex fancying his neighbor's wife was mentioned on Seth Meyers. Alex didn't like that because he DID have new neighbors and knew for a fact they watched the show. So he found that awkward. 😄 Also, bonus comment: if you haven't done it yet, Greg and Alex were guests on Late Night with Seth Meyers to promote the new season! Seth is a big fan of British comedy so he does what he can to expose more of us dumb 'Muricans to it.

Mr. Blobby was a big part of 90s Saturday night TV. It's not a puppet but like a mascot costume - like Gritty, but not a mascot of anything. Basically he'd run on to set and knock things over and wrestle people to the ground and generally cause chaos. He's remembered fondly by very few people (except Joanna).
@cuttwice39057 ай бұрын

Mr Blobby was an anarchic character created for the kids/family show 'Noel's House Party' in the early nineties. Bascially just a guy in a big pink rubber suit, he ran around bumping into people and things, falling over, being very annoying, and only every saying 'blobby!' in a weird voice. For some reason her was very popular, though I never really got it. That said, as someone else mentioned, he does appear on an episode of Big Fat Quiz and actually manages to bring some solid humor to the role, so maybe I've judged him harshly. Certainly for a certain generation of British audience, Mr Blobby is iconic - for good or evil - practically everryone has heard of him and seen his 'act'
@SeanS1027 ай бұрын
He started off as a prank item, a parody of a children's character if anything, but his physical comedy is actually very funny, imo, so it's not a surprise he wormed his way into the public's affections. If anything, the divisiveness added to the iconography, everybody had an opinion, it's hard not to when he looks the way he does, and moves the way he does, and sounds the way he does...

There's something rather hilarious about you not knowing if we have the Mr Men books in the UK, when it originates from Britain. The author wrote the first book after his son asked him "What does a tickle look like?". A KZbin channel called Fact Fiend did a very humorous summary of what Mr Blobby is and the history of the character. I highly recommend them.

I believe Joanne got to have one of the Mr Blobbys they used for the show, and the TM person who answered the questions is also a Mr Blobby stan and got the other (they have backups of several things including in the outfits of the contestants). I highly recommend Taskmaster: The People's Podcast co-hosted by TM expert statician Jack and, currently, Jenny Eclair (earlier, Lou Sanders). Also rec the official pod.

As others have said, you need to watch the last section of "The Big Fat Quiz of the 90's" for a dose of Mr. Blobby. I was very tired when I watched it the first time, and had fallen asleep for a bit. I woke up to Mr. Blobby coming on, and thought I was having a stroke.

And now I'm coming up with ideas for Taskmaster Hangman... maybe there's a way for each contestant to get their own word but it'd probably be more like Wheel of Fortune style. How about, everyone STARTS at five points but loses one per wrong guess? And the person who guesses the final word gets their lost points back.
