Greg Davies is the `Taskmaster' in this game show that challenges the wit and wisdom of five celebrities, who are all putting their reputations on the line. Sidekick Alex Horne assists Davies in setting up unique and ridiculous tasks for the competitors, which include painting a picture of a horse whilst riding a horse, and making a portrait of a celebrity using only toilet rolls. The competition is further fuelled by the fact that the prize pot is made up of each person's personal possessions, which they will lose to the overall winner.

US viewer here, just discovered Taskmaster via KZbin this past year & I can't tell you how much joy it's brought me...I mean truly laughing til I can't breathe. The show is masterful on all fronts. I'm so glad Alex mentioned the cake because that remains one of the most outrageously funny things I've ever seen done. Brilliant interview. I'm such a sucker for process, so it was fantastic to get a little bit of glimpse into how the show is made and has evolved over time. Mainly, I'm left wishing I could hear from more members of the production team like the director(s) and editors (And the production design team! The show always looks AMAZING and the fact that they've come up with a new theme for every series whilst keeping certain elements constant is always such a delight!).

I know how generally VCM came out of her series not exactly feeling great about herself, but I just hope she realized the massive compliment that Greg was giving her in the live task of the final episode. When Greg says "and the only one I care about getting right of any of those was Victoria's", it's because he's fully aware that she was the smartest of the bunch and thus would've been the one to think of simply stamping her feet hard on the ground as her "monster noise". Something that theoretically would sound the same from anyone else doing it.

Completely agree. I also think it says a lot about her personality, the perhaps unfair standards that she holds herself to and how she thinks other people perceive her, that she went away thinking she'd not done a great job, when actually she was brilliant in her own very singular way (learning to ride a bike, seemingly entirely from first principles, in a couple of hours while being filmed was ridiculously impressive!) and was very funny while still being kind and supportive to her fellow contestants (and to Alex, which was very nice to see).

The thing with Victoria is that she *is* so smart, and sharp, and she put many of those skills to use in the show where she could (the way she nailed the riddle task is pure art), but so many of the tasks required such different skills and smarts than she possesses. Watching someone who's usually so composed become discombobulated is funny. But the funniest thing that TM and the dynamic with Greg brought out of her is that, for someone who *literally* has an amazing poker face and is able to fool people - she became utterly, adorably *predictable*. It became a game of 'predict Victoria' for Greg, both personally and as his 'authoritarian' TM character, and he was NOT about to lose. 😂 And that whole dynamic was delightful to watch.

Agree that this is probably the best TM interview of all the ones I've seen here on KZbin, kudos to Mara Webster. If you haven't been listening to the Taskmaster Podcast, which has been doing interviews with the contestants, it's also well worth listening to. My one question is when was this interview recorded? Daisy May Cooper was on Series 10, that aired ages ago, but Greg seemed to think it wasn't out yet.

We so enjoy the layered program. We get to know the contestants many of which we have nvr met here in the US. The span of ages is great! I rewatch all the shows to catch sm things said or to watch Alex laugh. Do stop the practice of actually hurting Alex like with snapping something on his face. Actual hurt, hurts us as well. Could we have a fan favorites show?

I have to say Iain Stirling didn't exactly ingratiate himself to me, largely because he seemed to be taking it all, and himself, a bit too seriously, but I acknowledge that he at least recognised, and appeared genuinely upset with himself, when he realised he'd been a twat and probably upset a few people.

I've even found myself liking a couple of contestants on the show, who I don't like in other things. Most notably Tim Vine, who I don't find funny as a stand up or an actor, yet he was brilliant on TM. The closest I get is Katherine Ryan, who I usually find really annoying but even she had some good moments.

@@peterclarke7240 I'm with you - the seasons where the cast was full of overly competitive people are the seasons that I find myself not liking much. I know that Alex and Greg said that when they're more competitive, it's funnier, but I think - it's funnier to a certain type of person, but not others. That competitive vibe often pushes people to the edge, and I think that some people find that 'thrilling', it's a heightened atmosphere, and anything could happen. I find myself enjoying the seasons where the cast is nicer, and works together more. I think that a quieter approach can be equally as funny, and I much prefer to see people getting along, rather than being contentious. (I thought series 11 was great, and series 12 was superb.) Those are the casts that keep me watching, because I think - gosh, I'd love to be there, to be around those people. The ones who are so competitive that they become jerks about it? Nope - it's a struggle to even keep watching. I can barely watch series 7, even though there are some funny moments that I love, because, especially early on, the cast is so angrily argumentative, and it's just not a pleasant place to be.

I think the reason why the American reboot of the show failed is that American comedy has been mostly dead for ten years.There are very few good comedians left and the great ones are rejected by tv comedy central because of politics. Some of the funniest comedians are just on social media. Dick Masterson and Sean would have been a great taskmaster/assistant for example.

It's Always Sunny remains on TV despite certain episodes now "banned". There are good comedies about just few and far between.

The reason the US version failed is because they turned it into a 30 minute show and because Reggie Watts is not a Taskmaster type. Horne admitted to this himself in interviews. There are still hilarious US comedians and comedy shows, of course. How To with John Wilson or I Think You Should Leave are current shows that are ridiculously good. Who would be a good US Taskmaster? IMO Tig Notaro, Jason Mantzoukas, Chelsea Peretti, Lewis Black, Paul F Tompkins... I’m sure there are more.

They made an American version of Taskmaster. It was shite. It wasn't helped by the much shorter runtime, and huge number of adverts allowed on US television. Each episode ended up about 19 minutes long, so there was hardly any time left for the studio based stuff between tasks.

I don't know who the interviewer is, but she confuses me. She sounds American and British at the same time and I don't think I´ve ever heard that before. If I had to guess I would say that she's an American who tries to sound British. Or perhaps she's neither. :)

Love the show and haven’t watched interview yet. There is only one thing I don’t understand about the show and that is the “fake”? Homosexual relationship between Greg and Alex. Anyone have any insight? It doesn’t bother me but I think it detracts from the show.

I'm not sure what insight you're looking for. It's partly something played by the characters, especially from the pov of the Assistant being in love with the Taskmaster, not the other way around. Then it's also occasionally played for laughs by Greg and Alex, as the comedy hosts. That's all there is to it really, not much else to say beyond that without knowing exactly what you're after.

It's the dynamic that developed over time. You could also say that they have a "fake" Sub-Dom relationship, or a "fake" Taskmaster-Assistant relationship. They're playing characters, as they are actors on a tv-show. I'm not sure why you single out them sometimes joking about being in a relationship/unrequited love, as opposed to the much more often played joke of Alex being bullied or a servant. Does it simply make you uncomfortable to see two men who act out possibly being gay on screen? Because if that "detracts from the show", but the bullying and Alex literally crawling on the floor singing about being a floor snake doesn't, then I'm not sure where your issue stems from...

Yeah but we are post restrictions. It was kind of inevitable it would become endemic, similar to the flu, it is effectively over as a pandemic. Also, that 2000 figure isn't the number that died from Covid, it is the number who died within 28 days of having covid. This distinction is important because with the amount of people catching Covid, it is inevitable that a significant number of people who would have died anyway within that time period, happened to have caught Covid.

Also, according to the CDC it’s about 1,000 deaths a week on average for the flu. So, 2,000 ain’t bad. But what can be “depressing” is looking at death numbers, in general. There’s constant tragedy 24/7 on this planet, but there is also constant, positive miracles happening, as well. What upsets me is that if Alex and Greg read your ignorant comment, I think they’d be genuinely upset they offended someone, because they are kind people.
