This specific thing to me is the epitome why this task seems weirdly mean-spirited. Everything isn't written in the task. The task feels extremely un-taskmastery since in a normal taskmaster task, smuggling stuff through security somehow would be seen as a good thing and stuff like Jamali kicking the bags through security would be lateral thinking, and heck, if anything "smuggle this water bottle through security" *would* be a taskmaster task. The task is way too convoluted with too many rules for no reason. And the Lee thing shows that Alex was way too preoccupied with some perceived "gotcha" nonsense they didn't even pay attention if the contestants abided by the actual task rules. "Get All Of Your Luggage Through Security. You Must Stay Inside The Maze Until Your Luggage Has Been Through The X-Ray Machine." - This task was designed for the contestants to argue their way to five points. Every series there is a task or two that is designed to make the contestants mad and see how observant or whether they pay attention. - They could follow the simplistic way the task was set up, or think outside the box. Not many did - and no one caught that they didn't have to do everything Alex said at the end since it wasn't worded that way on the task. - No one spoke up about the water or passport not being on the task - no one noticed. They were just things Alex said to make them frustrated and take getting through security longer. Greg makes it a point to even say something about them being part of the rules, which they weren't, and still no one spoke up, he even made a face, he wanted them to speak up and say they were not on the rules. - I couldn't help but think if this task had been given to Series 7 or Series 12 (which is the series after this group) it would have been far more entertaining - and the contestants would have definitely argued with Greg about the water and the passport. One of them would have noticed.

Probably a bad way to do this task, but I forget if I heard you have to reconnect the ropes if you hit a barrier. So.... disconnect a rope near Alex, hit the barrier intentionally, disconnect another rope near Alex until you have a short path, bring your luggage through the new short path, pick up the disconnected pole (in whatever order you need to fulfill the task's wording) and go through security! Knowing how slow I am I'd probably wind up with the worst time doing that, though, and that's assuming it still fits the rules. I absolutely love Jamali bullying Alex and his joke about him getting extra scrutiny at the security point. Part of what makes Taskmaster funny to me is when contestants find a way to make Alex's behavior look bad. I also laugh so much when Greg portrays him as a horrible sexist or other things in his talk in the studio.

Ah yes, one of the worst tasks of all time, making the rubbish robots look like the boilersuit/tying task. Series 11 was a massive improvement over series 10 but the extremely convoluted task format from that series did seep into this one, and it wasn't exactly fun to watch. Also, the DQ rulings were totally unfair; Charlotte deserved to be DQd for not restarting the maze, but DQing Jamali and Mike completely goes against the 'all the information is the task' philosophy as the task never said you had to show a passport or take the bottle out, nor did it mention obeying the signs. Catching out Mike was especially unfair and I'm glad they didn't keep doing the whole 'hidden trap that causes a DQ unless you spot it' thing after this (except the salt task in this series, which I did like). Furthermore, Lee should have been DQd because he didn't carry the pole with him when going back for the passport. Alex was also very inconsistent on informing them if they messed up; he told Lee and Sarah about the liquids and when they touched a pole, but not Mike or Charlotte. But hey, it's nice to see Picnic Girl doing somewhat well after her complete nightmare on Champion of Champions 3.

Yeah. Unneccessarily complicated and tedious? Yup. Basically no room for creativity because of how much isn't allowed? Yup. Clearly just a task to frustrate the players? Yup. And it's the only task in the series I know of that has a DQ condition not written in the task. And I argue is straight up BS. And it's especially egregious because it was so obvious Alex was solely focused on those stupid "gotcha" DQs because somehow, Lee blatantly ignoring a rule didn't get a DQ. The salt one imo doesn't belong in this category because it's a very classic taskmaster fakeout of "you just thought it was salt but nothing ever said it was salt". Just rewrite the task - "Get the luggage through security. Obey the airport's rules. Fastest wins. Your time starts now." Would still be a shit task with the pole rules and whatnot, but now the signs actually are part of the task. Cuz right now, it's opposite of the taskmaster spirit - the spirit of "Taskmaster" would be that security would catch bottles and liquids on you, but you could save time removing all of it if you can smuggle it past him, not "oh this airport wouldn't allow liquids so if you get through security with it, you get DQ'd". Heck, "smuggle as much contraband past the luggage security check" would be *what an actual taskmaster task would look like.*

@@iliketrains3495 Yup, only prize task someone was disqualified in. And honestly, I think the Marmite one wasn't a DQ not based on something never stated in the task. Nish didn't make Marmite. He bought Marmite and put some shit in it. If a task was "make bread", you wouldn't have made bread if you just bought bread at the store and threw hot water and vinegar at it. Contrast it with the series 10 coconut water task - there, it's only said "drink one full tablespoon of coconut water", not "open a coconut and drink its water". Hence why taking pre-packaged coconut water is perfectly within the rules. If the task said "Fill this jar with Marmite. You have 10 minutes to order the ingredients", Nish's move imo would've been perfectly valid.

Pausing just after reading the task to give an answer and guesses. My first instinct is to open all the luggage just to see if there's anything hidden that would help/harm me, before packing up and stacking on the trolley as low as possible. My second instinct is that the task said nothing about moving posts without disconnecting them, so I would drop one rope, then shift all the posts as far to one side as possible to clear the way without disconnecting them, then bring through the luggage and ducking a second rope to get to the end, lifting the rope so the luggage doesn't touch. I would also remember that shoes and electronics go in a separate bin, and fluids cannot be greater than a few ounces.

The task said "through security," not "through the maze and the machine."

@@tpilot_error404 then that should have been in the task. The entire show is about following the letter of the task. Finding loopholes. Things like luggage content and passport rules are the responsibility of the security officer to enforce. Not the passenger. The security officer has the responsibility to enforce whatever the rules of that particular airline is. This is a badly designed task.

All these people complaining iTs NoT oN tHe TaSk don't realise what the task is stating. Get your bags through security. But there are clear signs all over the task that are the road blocks for this. A sign saying no liquids, another saying passport and boarding pass. This is taskmaster, there is a reason they are there just like any hint signs like 'look under the table', so it is the fault of the contestants for not realising the signs were part of the task and questioning why they were there.

The point is that the task is "get the luggage through security". Not "get the luggage through security while obeying the laws". Smuggling a water bottle through security while it wouldn't be allowed in "the setting" (but not disallowed in the task itself) would be, in fact, an incentive in a normal taskmaster task, not a stupid sneaky "gotcha" just to DQ people in an already unneccessarily convoluted task. "This is taskmaster", yeah taskmaster where the letter of the task matters, not signs elsewhere, and in fact those signs would be the point of the task like "Smuggle water through airport security" in a taskmaster task to the spirit of taskmaster. Not to mention they were super strict on these not-actually-rules-of-the-task-rules but Lee Mack was just deadass ignored having broken an actual rule mentioned on the task which imo shows even more they were more focused on the bad-faith gotcha nonsense instead of the actual task. I also don't remember any task in the future right now where they had such a completely nonsense gotcha thing, the only one remotely similar being the series 16 buttons task where a button, when pressed, DQd you. And even there, the button that DQ'd you had "don't" written on it and you had the button labels with one having "DANGER" written on it. But honestly, bad task aside, it was obvious Greg was going for that angle by loudly proclaiming "thems the rules" and looking around and waiting for someone to argue up the point.

"This is taskmaster". Have you ever watched the show? Your reasoning that the 'contestants should know to follow the implied rules' is literally against everything this show stands for. If the task doesn't explicitly tell you to obey all the rules of the airport that is not part of the task. I'm amazed you failed to grasp THE CORE CONCEPT OF THE SHOW.

@ Wow talk about a bad take, do you even watch the show? Obviously not, many tasks have nots around that if contestents just looked would guide them towards the solution. The build a bridge to hold a potato literally had words on the boat and signs everywhere that would lead people to look under the table where better materials were. Count the dots on the panel while answering the door has a phone ring in the middle of the task. These things are there with the expectation for the contestents to question whether they have meaning and use. But I guess you just watch clips not understand the CORE CONCEPT OF THE SHOW.

Yeah, during series 10-11, it seemed they ran out of writing tasks more simply and just made a bunch of them convoluted and over-engineered with many rules. Like, if the pedometer task had been in this series or series 10, it would have been: "Record the highest number of steps on this pedometer. You may only use this pedometer. You may not touch the pedometer with anything but yourself and from (this box with completely useless nonsense). If you fail to step for 5 seconds, you are disqualified. You may not leave this dome. Your time starts now" or something. Like how the pints-from-phonebooth-to-caravan was absurdly difficult or the egg-to-frying pan one restricted you to an extreme degree or the one with the doors in the garage.
