I was just a bit surprised that she missed the "bring in" part of the task - and slightly mire surprised that neither Greg nor Alex noticed it. She might actually be the one struggling the most despite probably being more intelligent than all previous contestants combined - hers is a very structured intelligence, and you need more of a chaotic intelligence. If that wasn't a thing before, now it is.

This whole episode was great, and has made me even more excited to see what this group has in store for us, but the Balloon Popping has become one of my all time favorite tasks. It's just perfect. Guz's complaint of an "imbalance in the poppability", the wind nearly knocking over Alex's little shelf, Guz hitting himself in the face, the ultimate acceptance of the power of hindsight all capped off by Desiree's portcullis failure. God but do I really love this show.

The editing on the balloon task was impeccable. I had completely forgotten about Alan and his pair of scissors, while cry-laughing at Desiree's attempt. Then they cut him back in, lazily snipping the string, which makes the resolution of Desiree's trial even more ridiculous. This is my favourite season. I think Alan chose the scissors because he wasn’t afraid to spend the “expensive” 8 minutes and he wanted to see what cutting the string did. He’s so used to being on QI and throwing out answers he knows is obviously wrong or even biting the bullet for other contestants. Using the scissors could have given him an extra hour and he’d be laughing the hardest at the absurdity.

I think Guz might just be my favourite. He delivers quote after quote and then flings attitude at Alex. Just a treat to watch. This show has introduced so many comedians and actors to a wider audience and it’s really great. Each season I won’t know some of them and by a couple episodes, I want to see them in more things. This is a great show on its own, but Alex is also doing what people should be doing when they get successful, by bringing people up with him and letting them have a chance too.

I think the Pop the Balloon task is one of the best tasks the show has ever had. Guz's two iconic quotes ("imbalance in the popability" and "brother this is not sensible") always bring me back to it - but the genuine laughter reaction of Alex when the portcullis didn't immediately fall for Desiree is just so good. Also any time you win through laziness (Alan here) is great.

I think I found the loophole in that Task. They have to remain behind the velvet rope, but the portcullis rope is tied to one of the stanchions in a place where they could easily stay on the spot and just untie it. And if you look at Victoria at 28:15 you can see that the knot holding the portcullis up can be undone by just pulling the dangling string.

Plus with the format of the studio shows I think Greg would allow it saying they followed the instructions that were PRINTED ON THE TASK! yelling the last part while looking at Alex, and then go off on Alex for leaving such an important rule off of the task.

@@fryboy11 "You must not move the rope" was part of the written task brief. I'd definitely argue that in order to untie it (or pull on it) you'd need to move it somewhat

I came into this series thinking either Victoria or Guz were gonna be my favorites, but Alan totally won me over 3 minutes in with his prize task and his quick "of course!" and "dont be ridiculous" to Greg's questions
