Located 250 kilometers south of mainland Australia, the state of Tasmania seems to lie at the end of the world. Detached from an ancient supercontinent that included Antarctica, Australia and South America, it is covered with species of trees that are unique in the world, survivors of the most distant geological past.
The natural heritage of what was once called “inspiration island” was protected by Draconian measures very early on. Today, nearly 80 percent of the large rainforest is inscribed as a World Heritage site, the largest territory in the UNESCO register. Very few people live here, just a few logging communities who love this land.
Yet this exceptional treasure is endangered; the greed of major forestry companies threatens the natural reserves, and unscrupulous lobbying on the part of industrialists has ignited a serious “tree war.”
It pits powerful representatives of the Tasmanian forestry sector against advocates working to defend this fragile environment and those whose livelihoods depend on it.

Commercial forest logging in Tasmania is allowed by the government. And, the woodchip industry exports for paper manufacturing....😢😢😢😢😢

See how he has to put it human terms, like how things are only valuable if humans can get use out of them. Obviously I know he doesn't think like this, but most of the world does.

The MOST endangered species on Earth is Mankind. Not due to logging.

The area described as safeguarded by unesco on your video is inaccurate the only area protected is on the West cost in the Franklin Gordon wild rivers national park, South West national park and cradle mountain national park. This dose not include any east coast areas on the unesco protected maps.

Why are you showing regrowth? Propaganda rubbish. Tasmania’s forests are 90% protected.

Can't say it's old growth where these eggheads are talking. There are stumps with springboard notches, when they cut it selectively.
@Tasmantor
@Tasmantor 3 ай бұрын
so because some trees where selectively felled then all the trees magically become new growth in your mind?

@@Tasmantor Old growth by definition has not been logged. So yeah, but called regrowth, so check what is in native forest silvicultural books. Logging promote growth, mimicking natural disturbances and understanding the ecology of the Forrest. Us Forester's don't want to destroy our forests, production areas and conservation areas. Rural towns the timber industry, agricultural and mining keep these towns alive.
