Hi, 08:00 the Hindi word for what your Mom is doing is termed Pees-naa, which means wet grinding. The stone base is called Batt-aa. The stone she grinds with is called Sil. Oh my, that sil and lorha bring back memories, my grandmother used to sit on the floor and grind seasoning and dhal for dhalpourie and coconut for coconut chutney.

Awesome vlog TOT !! But why do "we have" to fry the fish before we curry it ?? tradition I guess 🤔..flour is for the fish to not "stick" to the pot,but I have fried fish without the flour ..Tradition again.. but i guess it tasted very good! 👍

You can open the door for some air and cooking curry or doesn't mean it will smell up your home at least I haven't experienced that yet also my daughter lives 3 hours away from me and she was kind of skeptical about the odours of cooking our food and she was quite surprised that didn't happened

Your mum still upkeeps a tradition what our forefathers have used in their day to day cooking over centuries dating back to India. In many parts of India (eg. Kerala) the whole method of grinding fresh herbs and seasonings with the stone still exist today. I love how the grandkids call her Nani-maa. The kitchen looks very different, don't recognize it. Did your parents redo everything, the layout looks very beautiful. You are blessed to have such wonderful parents Reshmi, and I'm so happy your son is spending time with his nani and nana is TnT. Nothing beats a good hot doubles and I know how obsessed you are lol. Your mom is a pro at what she does, the food looked on point!! Perfection!! 💯💯💯

My dad had to give up the house he built in his early 20s because of family disputes and now they are so much happier in this new place. Thanks for your kind comment!
