A nice little glimpse into some fig varieties. Ronde De Bordeaux, Smith, Teramo Unk, Brandon St. Unk, Azores Dark, Petite Aubique, Raspberry Latte, LSU Tiger & Red Libya. Ripened in 90F+ dry weather & the quality and ripeness is there. It doesn't get much better than this here.

I add brown sugar to the water I give my trees and they suck it up and send it to the fruits. Try it and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Hi Ross, really been enjoying your content. You sure know your figs. I grew up with a fig tree in our yard and now as an adult, really miss it. You’ve given me the inspiration to get some cuttings. You’re a natural on the camera. Subscribed!

Teramo is a town in Italy. It might originate from there!

All ripe figs taste similar, just sweet. Let him do double blind taste test, he won’t tell the shit out of the differences between figs.

Another great fig video Ross. Where can you get the Italian 258 tree? Can't find it.

Thanks, Great Video. Sorry about that moldy one. I've had that happen before. Lately I have been smelling figs before eating them. The bad ones will often have a moldy smell, or sometimes have a kombucha type smell to them if they have started to ferment. Also, I usually crack open the fig and scrape out the inside with my teeth and then discard/compost the skin on the thick skin varieties. Oh, and I will often cut off the tip hole area if there is mold or crap on there. The mold on figs can be super toxic, and contain aflatoxin.

Sounds like SWD. Water entering the fig will speed up the fermentation process.

Thanks for the great video. Want to try the Azores Black. What was the spelling of the fig from California that had the intense flavor?

I notice no white figs...do they not do well in your area? I'm in SoCal North Orange County..ideal fig area except for the damn fig beetles. Skunks are good to eat the beetle grubs in the ground.

Hello Ross In what zone do you reside? I live in zone 8, in Alabama, and have high humidity most years. Brown Turkey is a popular fig and is quite tasty. The only problem is it grows quite tall. What are some other varieties that would grow here. but remain about 8 ft or less? Also, what is the variety of wild fig your friend from Lebanon prefers? Thanks, Barbara

Barbara, I really like Smith/Italian 258. If you're having trouble keeping them small, do some pollarding every other year.

RdB, Teramo, LSU Tiger for sure. Probably Azores Dark as well.

Ross Raddi I'm surprised you hadn't tried rdb in the ground yet, given how early it is and it's hardiness.
