Ask any denizen of Mysuru for the ‘tuppada dosae’ hotel and chances are you will be directed to this quaint shop that has stood the test of time for over eight decades in the bylanes of Ramachandra Agrahara. Begun by Mr Hollappa in the 1940s, this breakfast-only eatery is now run by his son, 86-year old Mahadevappa, and grandson, Mahesh. The must-try (actually one of only three items on the menu) here is the scrumptious Tuppa Dosae, roasted with liberal lashings of ‘vanaspati’ ghee, to accommodate “taste and budget” as pointed out by Mahesh. I dropped in for a quick chat and breakfast during a recent drive through the city.

I can see lot of comments about Vanaspati usage here. I guess Vanaspati is not a new item to us. Iam not sure how many of you are aware, all the bakery and biryani makers uses it more (biscuits, cakes, cream in the biscuits also etc contains Vanaspati). Only name is we call it as Vanaspati but they call it as Hydrogenated fat. Even the usage is approved by FSSAI (Food safety standards Authorities of India). As long as we consume it once in a while , it is ok. Even the owners are openly saying that they use the Vanaspati. Its our wish to eat or not.

@@FoodLoversTV thank you sir. Its the known fact that every bakery industry uses the Vanaspati. We can easily find Hydrogenated oil over their labels. As we are not aware of this fact, we dont make noise. When some one use word, dalda or Vanaspati then we react

@@FoodLoversTV Kripal after appu sir incident we all should be very conscious about the usage of fat in food and promoting those eateries. Kripal I don’t know why you are promoting this? This eatery uses maida and vanaspati for dosa. Maida is a white poison and vanaspati is very dangerous. Just for the above point, poison is also a allowed item according to food corporation of India, but it matters how much quantity. Alcohol is not prohibited in India and it is legal that doesn’t mean that it is good for health. When Kripal asked about what item he use, the owner hesitated to mention vanaspati and maida. In one way it is good that eatery is using these ingredients and moving forward I don’t go there. Kripal there are lot of good eatery’s in Tumkur for idli and dosa and visit it and promote those. Tumkur is known for idli and dosas. They don’t use any maida or vanaspati for sure. But it is really unfortunate that you promoted this in main channel which doesn’t worth for. In Bangalore and Mysore many eatery’s are like this are very popular but the fact it they are not up to the mark where they should be in quality. I usually don’t write comments but after watching this I felt to share my thoughts with you all.

Yes, local street vendors use good quality Amul butter now a days, Here vanaspati which ideally is an adulterant additive is brought to mainstream, poured like a river and being coined as ghee which is unethical and inhuman

Hello, Kirpal. Wishing you and entire food lover’s family a happy Deepavali. I wanted to share with a place which is from past 60 years at KR nagar. It is a very famous eatery that serves the best benne dose in KR nagar. The hotel is near KR nagar bus station and it an old establishment. If you ever get some time do visit that place. You might love it. As a food lover for especially idli’s and dosa I really suggest you to try it once 🙂

I'm from mysore and eating this ghee dosa from my childhood. Still our friends keep going to this hotel and have atleast 4 dosas . It is so budget friendly 35 rupees for 2 dosas with tasty chutney and sagu. It is made of vanaspathi ghee so better to eat once in a while to avoid fat. But trust me if you visit mysuru you should not miss it bcz of the brilliant taste it gives. This hotel opens at morning 8am and closes at 12 afternoon.

Oh wow! That's one of the places I ate. I miss it so much. Kripal, you just bring back some memories which are so sweet. Yet, so difficult for me to savor. I was 17 when I used to enjoy it. Now, I'm 29 and watering my mouth to taste that Dose. Hopefully, next year I'll be back in India and have enough time in my city Mysore to taste it. Thanks for reminding! Again great video Kripal, totally like the fact that you made sure that we get to know what's been added into the making of any dish. One point vanaspati ghee or Dalda contains very high trans fatty acids and is bad for health, hopefully, they change it in the future i understand food cant be cheap and also good in quality, but the tradeoff is not worth it. Keep doing your great work Kripal.

It’s pleasant to know that the same dishes,prepared in different cities or places give their own peculiar taste simply because of diversified way of cooking and preparation.Each eatery has its own unique taste of Dosae,Idli or Wada chutney and Sambar. These are affordable and easily digestible although Vanaspati is sparingly used in households these days. Thanks Kirpal Sir for your engrossing presentation.

Hello Sir, The name in the board is TUPPADA DOSE HOTEL outside, inside the kitchen they use VANASPATHI alias DALDA which is not the real tuppa or ghee. That means what they say in the board loudly which is not followed inside. Through you we came to know what kind of TUPPA they use. Thanks to you for finding the secret of tuppa. Like this so many sweet houses sell mysore pak in the name of pure ghee which is not so. Anyway your video is an eye opener in so many aspects. Hello kripal Don't you feel that your tag is actually misleading, it's mentioned tuppadha dose but as soon as he tells he uses vanaspati it becomes vanaspati dose not tuppadha dose.

All restaurants use dalda, they just dont admit. All those ghee jalebis in shops are actually vanaspati ghee jalebis.

Yes I have visited here more than 5 times, tuppa dose is very tasty, one can eat upto 5-6 dosas😋😋😋

Please boss we cannot call it a Mysore pak.. I went there with all the hype from shimogga guys but it was pathetic, my friends dint even touch it second time..

@@darshanh5045 if it's pathetic why so much crowd there? it may be pathetic for you your friends and try to keep your opinion with yourself don't post it in social media. that venkateshwara sweet hall mysorepak is gud in it's own way and it's unique. don't think since mysore pak is originated in mysore they only shoud be masters in cooking it so many others will cook nicely than mysore people.

I am putting forward my dislike the same way you are doing your liking towards that shop.. moreover im not commenting about any place.. as he told mandagadde fish was fantastic and I visited it twice and I will visit shimoga for the same again and again.. but definitely not for that sweet. Even though Mysore has a couple of decent makers for Mysore pak, it's Ramanagar one which I feel is one of the best

They say it's Tuppada dose but they are adding vanaspati and vanaspati is a trans fat which is not good for the health.

Yes basically it is a dalda dosa not tuppa dosa tuppa is a source of very good fat required for body but vanaspati is very dangerous

Yes you should try Venkateshawara sweet bhavan near Shivappa Nayaka Market. In Shimoga for amazing sweets as I know it’s older than 50 years old. I know this place since my childhood. Famous for dhood peda and Mysore pak. And everything they make are really best quality. During my childhood I use to ride to this place with my dad on his bike for about 150 kms to get sweets from this place.
