Hi Jeff! I'm so glad I found your channel!! Today I learned "Mary Had a Little Lamb" with all the reharm. I've been checking out your videos and think finally found content that can take my playing to the next level. I'm definitely getting Stanky Loops. Well, just wanted to say thanks and also, if you don't mind, can you tell me whats the software you use to show the piano keys? Thanks and keep it up, you're doing an amazing job.

hi jeff can you help explain how i can determine which pentatonic scales will work over different chords? Im a beginner so lean pretty heavily on the pentatonic scale but hoping that understanding the different ones i can use will help me a lot!

You can play the minor pentatonic for any minor key you're in, and different chords can be put underneath as long they are in the same key. For example A minor pentatonic will work over a progression F-G-Am, where all chords are in A minor. If the key you're in is a major key then the minor pentatonic scale should be shifted down 3 semitones i.e so the second note of the minor pentatonic is the same as your root note. For example for A major you would play f minor pentatonic, the relative minor of A, contaning all the same notes as A major pentatonic, if that makes sense?

Hi jeff! Why does the harmonisation with g maj work in the key of A minor. My understanding is that G is supposed to be sharpened to G# in the harmonic minor, making Gmajor chord harmonically distant from a minor

When you are in A minor Dorian mode it shares the same notes as G major

That's interesting. On third bar i'd've done a #7 with a 6+5 to confirm the key of G. Just goes to show you there's always a lot of ways you can do this stuff.

Joshua Randall #7? G#?

#7 of the key, so F# in the bass at the 3rd bar. Then I would put D and A in the middle. The 5 is the C in the melody. I probably just said #7 because the key of G is strongly implied through this whole passage but isn’t written. Bar 3 is just a nice place to confirm the key. Of course, that’s only one way you could do this melody.

Joshua Randall oh so you’re saying playing a G chord starting on bar 3, with the 7th in the bass?
