This is a run of the fourth game in SNK's big franchise, Metal Slug.
This run by zk547 ( tasvideos.org/... ) improves upon the previous publication ( tasvideos.org/... ) by 02:54.01 thanks to new optimization strategies. This run also ends input early on the final escape section after the final boss.

Really well-made metal slug4 tas! I enjoyed this video a lot. Hope if there are some ideas took from my strats! I love how he dealed tanks or whatever machineries with nadia's knife.

Many of the ideas were taken from your 2 player run with Topeng and Swag's 1 player runs. Thanks to all of you for the work you did in this game. This TAS was possible because of it.

Being gifted the metal slug collection on steam was a unexpected treat. Hard game but hilariously addicting.

A slight disappointment of a Metal Slug game in some areas, but it’s still Metal Slug, it’s still fun, and it’s still great to play, unlike… Metal Slug 3D….

Ngl, I’m definitely a MS3D apologist. I know it’s not a good game, but I can’t help but enjoy it for what it is. Pretty big guilty pleasure, you could say.

I agree this is definitely one of the lamest ones. The boss design is more akin to a billboard moving around rather than a huge set piece with lots of graphical flourishing. And about 90% of the enemies are just recycled. Leading to very little variety and looks rather boring. Not to mention theres very little environmental variety. In fact I think even the environment graphics were reused too. Story was pretty dull, too, as it feels more ho-hum like it's the same old shtick as the first game. Except this is the 5th game in the series and it doesn't do anything that hasn't already been established. Of course, it's still a good game, but I would definitely call this one of the low points in the series (3D not withstanding, of course). And hey, if the worst is mediocre, then that's not a bad record.

I don't really see anything wrong with this game. That's something that boggles me. Why is Metal Slug 4 given a bad rep?

@Galaviste its more because the other games are just really that good. It became obvious how rather plain this one is in comparison to the others.

@@Galavistethe game had a LOT of reused sprites and no charm or new things IN DEFENSE SNK was fighting bankruptcy and laid off most of the original metal slug staff which resulted in what we got
