It's incredibly weird to see a TAS spliced together like this, but I guess it makes sense as this is basically a compilation of segments that are worse for TAS timing.
@chrisroode2 жыл бұрын
So, I have no desire to make a tas, so I’ll spill my brain here. I think the R and L buttons provide a diagonal boost in the game…they add horizontal velocity without taking away from your zed speed. So on these long straight paths in mute city you can set yourself at an angle, hold the r or l button, and go the same direction with a faster speed. I experimented with it when I was a kid, and it seemed to be promising, but couldn’t handle how difficult it made steering in real time. If this trick boosts your mute city time, your welcome…I would love to see it applied to this game. For reference, it’s essentially using the strafe running technique in doom and duke3d on f-zero
@nymx_2 жыл бұрын
Greetings chrisroode. Acutally, holding down the "L" or "R", more than 2 frames at a time will drag your forward speed...even though the speed doesn't change. That is why you see me tapping it, every other frame. I discovered this, after created a HUD to help me determine if I am making forward progress. Believe me, it was a shock to see that. In regards to the Mute City I, it is 1/100 faster than any other TASer I've know to complete it. Mainly because of the RNG car at the end that helped me to cut around the corner faster. (This was the 2nd version of 3 full attempts on that track. Kept it because of RNG).
@nymx_2 жыл бұрын
@Christopher Roode Exactly. Since I am redoing this entire TAS for the last time, my plans are to create a documentary to demonstrate every detail that I experienced over these past 5 years. Every mechanic that I used will be showed cased to explain why I did what I did. From the looks of it, it will be 2 more years before I am done with this. (I intend to never re-TAS it ever again).

23:51 Isn't it faster to save up that S-boost a bit to do the shortcut glitch used in the current WR for this track ? (there was a somewhat recent discovery where White Land II's finish line extends to the right, so with an S-boost and great cornering on the jump plate, one can pass the finish line while in the air, though the timing is somewhat precise) Regardless, this is a great TAS that shows how close the WRs are compared to this TAS's times, which couldn't be compared before due to having to finish 2nd place on each track except the last to save time on RTS.
@nymx_2 жыл бұрын
You are right. The problem was...I didn't know about that trick, until I got to Red Canyon II. Since it took me 9 months to complete King League alone, there was no way that I was going back to fix that. 1 frame of improvement, completely destroys any synchronization afterwards. So...since that is missing, guess what? :) There will be another version, but it will be about 2 years from now before the BOTing is complete.

Would it be possible to save time using L and R buttons on the straight tracks to get to the sides more quickly for the next corner?
@nymx_2 жыл бұрын
No. The game mechanics causes you to loose forward position, even though your speed is maintained. When you press L or R, for more than 2 frames, without 2 blank inputs for L or R...you will fall back. So...most of my TAS, you are seeing every other frame tapped to move over. so that I am able to stay ahead.

Absolutely! I'm glad that it does that for the RTA version of this TAS. Because it gives me a perfect opportunity to cut the 1st celebration theme. But in this version...the only benefit is being able to see what was theoretically possible.

In Game Time Focused? I don't understand. What's the difference between these videos?
@nymx_2 жыл бұрын
This one finishes all races in 1st place. The other, does 2nd to cut the "celebration" scene...which is around 1 to 2 seconds on each lap.
Why the second racer always finish few seconds after you? It should'nt be that competitive, you complete all laps in top speed and even shortcuting port town, and cpu must had to take at least 10 seconds or more to show up after you. This kinda sux, game itself also do not show other racer completion times as mario kart does.
