Pokémon: Ruby ( tasvideos.org/... ), Sapphire ( tasvideos.org/... ), and Emerald ( tasvideos.org/... ) form the third generation of Pokémon ( tasvideos.org/... ), after Pokémon: Gold ( tasvideos.org/... ) and Silver ( tasvideos.org/... ). Noticeable differences include the graphics and interface, Pokémon abilities, and running shoes that allow the player to move around much faster in the overworld before getting the bike.
This TAS completes the game without using any glitches. There is another TAS ( tasvideos.org/... ) of this game which uses a notable glitch to skip the second half of the game.

Literally my favorite Pokémon TAS. Crits whenever it matters. Never is fully paralyzed except when the opponent Protects, to save PP. Quick Claw always activates when it matters. Doesn't even bother to get Rayquaza since it'd be slower. The RNG manipulation is insane.

Smart that the TaS doesn’t always do crits, if it always did crits it would actually loose time because the text box saying “a critical hit!” Loses a little bit of time that really adds up if you misuse crits

Actually, it's a reference to a 1990's era Kids' Television Game TV show by the name of GUTS, produced by Nickelodeon. The premise being kids would compete in various physical challenges, then climb up a (Manmade) mountain at the end to determine the winner. The punchline was "No ifs, ands or butts, these kids got GUTS" In the Pokemon games, having the ability of Guts doubles your Attack stat when inflicted with Burn, Poison, or Paralyze. (It also ignores the attack drop that burn normally causes to physical Pokemon). In the TAS, Guts is used to gain enough attack to one-hit KO most things. Facade similarly gains double power when a Pokemon has an abnormal status, which makes it (Almost) as powerful as getting hit with Hyper Beam every single turn. Critical hits are used to knock out Pokemon that would either resist (Rock/Steel types) or otherwise survive (Even with boosted Attack + Facade). Coverage moves handle Ghost types (that are Immune to Normal and Fighting attacks) Quick Claw shenanigans ensures that, even when paralyzed, the Pokemon "acts first". (Speed priority is increased by 1 when the item activates, similar to using Quick Attack). Also, bonus for manipulating fully paralyzed when the AI trainer uses Protect, lol.

It isn't as bad as it sounds. This is a TAS, remember, he isn't manually resetting the game to fish for criticals, he can return to the exact frame on which the critical is calculated, so it's maybe 15-20 sec/crit

45:21 Taking out the Poochyena with Strength instead of a Fighting move is one of the (many) genius plays in this TAS. One would think "Shouldn't you just take out the Poochyena with a super-effective attack?" In a casual playthrough, sure, that sounds great. But the TAS _knows_ it can OHKO Poochyena using Strength without needing to crit, which is _faster_ than taking it down using a Fighting move, because you don't get the super-effective text (which wastes time).

cros107 No. First, there is the long transition between choosing boy or girl, then there is the fact that May is a shorter name than Brendon, making text better.

I know, but there could be differences in Brendan's pokemon/moveset, or the many different movement early in the run, also despite Brendan's name being longer he might have shorter text overall. I don't know what it is, but there is literally NO POINT in doing a TAS if it's not as optimized as you can get it.

I never said May runs faster. May and Brendan run at the same speed. All I'm saying is, playing as May must give some sort of speed advantage, as this is a TAS, and it's an unwritten rule that you have to make TASes as optimised as you can get. There's no preference in TASes. You go the fastest route. Don't ask me how this is faster. I don't know. But unless a Pokemon Gen 3 expert comes along to prove me wrong, I will hold my viewpoint. You believe anything you want.

What's supposed to happen is that Zigzagoon attacks twice and then Wally throws a poké ball. But the stats of the Zigzagoon and Ralts can vary. If Zigzagoon has a high enough Attack and Ralts a low enough Defence, then Ralts can faint with only two attacks. The game doesn't account for this, so it just carries on as usual. This is beneficial since you don't need to watch Wally throw the poké ball. Also, the Ralts can be shiny! If it is shiny, it doesn't carry over into future battles though.

Shawn Faris It is possible, but it would likely take WAY too long via glitching or requires so many trades and things that it isnt worth doing. You could theoretically do Emerald with just main series games and a few distribution carts.

Taillow/Swellow would be hard walled by Wattson due to Magnemite and Magneton. Machop/Machoke are just as good in that regard and obtainable post-Wattson. :3

In simple language, Beating a category of any game as fast as possible using programs or macros. They are dependent on human input so whenever human changes command, they do exactly the same thing without any mistakes. They are capable of doing frame perfect things (depends on games), manipulating RNG, etc

earthquake, rock tomb and being able to beat the early game portion with mudkip (you would have to catch tailow very early where it is dead weight against roxanne and especially wattson) make machop the better choice overall. Also, thanks to its higher natural attack (100 vs. 85) it still hits stupidly hard even without STAB on facade.
