Tata Güines solo: La Mulata Rumbera

One of my all time favorite solos. The sound of the first three slaps in the solo section is an attention getter. The artful phrasing utilizes a beautiful combination of percussive colors and tones woven into compelling melodic lines. A masterpiece.
Tata Güines has influenced many congueros. A comparison with the solo by Bill Fitch on Insight is a clear example.

To me what is even more impressive than how technically brilliant and musical he was, it is that he was doing stuff like this in the late 1950's!!!!!!!!! On conga drums! Thank you for sharing all of this........I was late in discovering Tata Guines .
