I've been wondering why they don't considering the choreography is obviously challenging enough to warrant it. I think they're trying to avoid people saying "OMG she's lipsycning!?!! " and getting all in a tizzy. So the hand held mic clearly shows when she's singing and when it's just the backtrack in between. Might also be the quality of sound produced by the headset, too.

In this particular performance I wish she had sing a bit more, but she killed it! I get that she’s doing a dance break but it’s strange to see her drop the mic and the vocals just keep playing. I think they should record actual backing vocals instead of just the studio version playing, i think that would already make it a lot better

Definitely see what you’re saying. There is a lot of her dropping the mic mid vocal, but I also get that there is a goal to highlight her stage potential as well. I’m sure she’ll hone the right balance between committed vocal and transitioning to a dance bit. With these performances in particular for me, it’s not so much the pulling the mic away to dance as much as I think the backing track is cranked entirely too much. She is doing a lot of embellishing the vocal and ad libs that are kind of drowned out by the blaring backing track. There was a better balance for the Jimmy Fallon performance a few nights ago!

Fun fact: Tate has severe asthma and dancing while singing on stage is one of her “weaknesses” she said she wants to get better at!!! I think this performance was PERF! I don’t think people understand what it means to dance like this and sing and perform and alll the things. She killed it!

This was the first version I heard with the guitar doing the vocal melody at the end. It works. They took the guitar solo out of Greedy however at this show and tried it on a few other songs. It worked awesome in the opener and on 10:35. I think he needs to vary his lead tone a bit, Exes guitar lead would work well with a playful WAH. Maybe add a flanger or phaser to Greedy. Switch it up since it works so well, it gives Tate time and space to dance, so to keep it fresh switch up the tone a bit. Flanger here, WAH there, heavy delay on that one, Octave on another.
