She's not overhyped whatsoever. She's fucking TALENTED. A very decent voice, a great dancer, a very pretty girl. I hope to god that with so much information being readily available online and in the media about artists being taken advantage of, that she doesn't let the business drain her of her passion at any point. I do see and understand why the Britney Spears comparisons are there. The similarities are valid, and they will probably be around for a while, but I hope that 1.) That doesn't create an impossible standard for Ms. McRae and 2.) It doesn't start a conversation about us never seeing Britney back on stage again because her time isn't up yet either. Either way, I'm definitely in Tates' corner. She gives dance, she give sass and energy, but she also has some more melancholic songs out there too. Definitely keeping an eye out for her.

The reason why I never liked the “hard work“ argument, is because other artists are working hard too, other artists are talented too, yet their hard work/talent is either unnoticed or under-appreciated. She sounds nothing like Britney and that's no shade to her. She's more along the lines of Camilla Cabello vocally, 2000s Pop-R&B and a more subdued touch to the darker Dance-Pop era of the late 2010s. She’s 20 and just entered the scene and you’re comparing to someone that sang like a baby for a “distinguished voice” and did it before Tate was even born. She’ll have copycats and cultural impact if you give her 20 years in the game like britney 🤷🏼‍♂️ I think they are comparing more of the “it” factor. The way she performs amazing and gives catchy hits, she has a presence on stage, dance breaks. She’s bringing the energy and stage presence that Brit has and I think that’s what they’re comparing. I agree with the black girl point but I feel like we need to acknowledge when the girls are doing great! let’s not use them to constantly make some weird narrative or put them up against their white peers. Yes the white girls have privilege but we can still celebrate how Victoria has like 7 grammy noms, Coco has 5 and SZA is the most nominated artist. Normani’s only issue is that she doesn’t release music, when that’s done then she will do great too. I enjoyed Chloe’s album but her label just sent her on tour and then stopped promoting it, where was the music video for Body Do? That song could’ve done well!! Tinashe is about to go on tour and we need to actually support her not just mention her when we want to make an argument.

Shoutout to Normani cause ever since she dropped motivation all the girls all of a sudden wanna work with Sean Bankhead lol. And I see the Britney inspiration but when Britney came on the scene it was like a meteor hitting this planet. Britney was so captivating and so larger than life and had so much star power. People still talk about her performances from 20+ years ago today. I don’t see it for Tate. lol. Not a lot of people (especially those who didn’t grow up in the dance world) know that Tate has had a very big career as a dancer. She’s danced on SYTYCD Juniors, she danced for Justin Bieber on his Purpose Tour, for those of us competitive dancers she won at the Dance Awards 2 times “Best Female Dancer” which is a big deal, she won a scholarship for the Berlin State Ballet Company after winning a silver medal at the Youth America Grand Prix in 2015, she was a brand ambassador for Capezio which is a huge dance wear company, and danced with Demi Lovato at the American Music Awards in 2017. She’s been a dancer since like age 11. As for singing, she’s always been a beautiful singer but she of course kept on practicing her voice out until she was ready to make her first real song.

She brings me the "why I love pop music"...and what is really great is that the record label is not wasting the hype she got from Greedy. They are IN...IT. And that's what didn't happen with Tinashe, Chloe and obviously Normani. She doesn't deserve the hate, because others didn't get the same attention. I actually think they did get a lot of attention, but the hype was lost (for mainstream at least), and it's not their fault.
@brandonpadilla5402

I think the discourse around her is very interesting. A lot of it stemmed from people saying “she’s what we have been missing in pop” which is actually true. Artist like tinashe, Victoria normani. Have there own lane and aesthetic. When I see them I actually already see Beyoncé/Ciara etc. there’s a difference in the style of dance we are with them. It’s harder and more emotive. Less throwing your head around if you get what I’m saying . They already serve us everything we want and more and the people who like them like Tate but somewhere that was lost in translation. Tate does give Christina and Britney energy which is different from Beyoncé/ ciara energy. When the girls perform we give them there 10s but we also have to be real about who they say there inspirations are. Doja cat really is the next nicki Minaj. We cannot deny nickis pop hits were doing the damn thing but we love and know she’s a rap girl heart and Doja embodies that. It’s the same for all theses different artist you can pin point them to direct influences and not all of them have the same influence and marketing team. A lot of the lack of attention tinashe and normani have received directly correlate with there record label pushes. But a lot of times it takes time in the industry to do what you actually want. Tate herself said a lot of her first album was songs given to her and that she feels like this new album is more who she is. It takes time. And I hate the tinashe slander she is so talented and has achieved so much in her career I hate that they belittle the successes she has achieved. In regards to the video I agree about the moment when it felt Gaga. The first time I saw it I said the same thing when she did that move. I have a feeling this is just the beginning and I would actually love to see her do a group collab with tinashe, normani and Victoria. Like imagine the 4 of them in a room performaing. They would go the fuck off.

She's getting pushed because she has the number one song in the world rn. It's that simple. I get where you're coming from, but I've been following her for years, and she was pretty much ignored by the label before this. Her debut album was just thrown out there with no promo, tv appearances or anything. So it's not the case of a white girl just being handed everything, it's an artist that has been mid-tier for years finally getting a big hit and getting major label backing.

Victoria has 7 grammy nominations this year. Chloe and Normani got to perform their debut singles on the VMA's main stage and got major co-signs from big stars. Normani had a whole max martin/ariana grande song and dave myers big budget video for her debut and was on the cover of Rolling Stone. And she refines her voice to stand out more, maybe with some vocal lessons she can refine her sound (she seems to sound, like camilla/billie eilish) And some memorable imagery (every artist has their iconic outfits,) Wishing her the best and see her grow as an artist. ❤
