I am caught in a rabbit hole of Westerns on KZbin, here from The Texan, before that Restless Gun, before that, Tombstone Territory, etc. Thanks for uploading these and helping my retired days in the AZ desert go smoother.

David McClean must have been somewhat relieved that this show only went for 13 episodes considering that he had to wear that leather sling.

Royal Dano. One of the most talented character actors in movies and TV. He played everything from preachers to evil gunmen, drunks to sheriffs. As he aged he became adept at playing fathers and grandfathers. Some good, some not-so-much. He also did a great version of mentally unstable people. Far different than most actors. Didn't know David McLean until I saw an episode here a couple of years ago. Being in Canada I guess I wasn't treated to the Marlboro Man spots. Thanks for posting.
@vawlkee518 жыл бұрын
Dano as his magnum opus played the character "Mr Death" - as I called him, in the film "The Right Stuff". The preacher that showed up every time a test pilot died. He was also the model and voice for Dismal's "Great Moments With Mr Lincoln". Look it up if you don't believe me.

I think he played a mentally unstable Abraham Lincoln on an episode of the Rifleman. Could that be?

@@SherryTaylorReynolds Can't say I've seen the episode but I wouldn't put it past him. He did "unstable" very well.

Originally telecast on June 8, 1960. This was half of the 1960 summer replacement for "PERRY COMO'S KRAFT MUSIC HALL" on NBC [the other half-hour before it was "HAPPY", at 9pm(et)]. Perry's company produced this series. 24:44- ED HERLIHY: "For a copy of tonight's recipes, write 'KRAFT TV RECIPES', Box 1718, Chicago, 77, Illinois."

Don't know why Tate wasn't picked for a continued series. I believe it was a summer replacement for the Perry Come show but unfortunately that was as far as it went. David McLean was a decent actor and would have liked him at least being in another Western series. Thanks for the upload PizzaFlix.

Royal Dano great character actor.. modern actors don’t seem to have the presence of the earlier actors.. James Coburn was good too.

Interesting to note the Army issue handgun McLean draws in the opening sequence. Most TV shows of the day employed a Colt .44 or .45. Nothing like being accurate when you're recording period pieces.

That opening reminded me of a lot of the westerns at that time with the gun drawn, and fired, coming up to the face of the star of the cowboy B&W from that era.

Tate is an American Western television seriesstarring David McLean that aired on NBCfrom June 8 until September 14, 1960. It was created by Harry Julian Fink, who wrote most of the scripts, and produced by Perry Como's Roncom Video Films, Inc., as a summer replacement for The Perry Como Show.

I wonder how authentic these westerns are relative to the rough life of the late 1880's in America. Aside from guns and rifles, lots of fists flew, bar fights, vicious verbal confrontations--all in a day's work. I don't recall this series. Judging from its brief spell (just 13 episodes), was this aired in the afternoon or evening? Which channel?
