Teddy, unfortunately like many "urban" black men, has narcissist traits, he lacks empathy and has the ability to emotionally punish a woman thru silent treatments and triangulation with other women. He very likely has some deep wound/trauma from his childhood. And because no one was "there for him" then and provided emotional safety and empathy to him, he thus has none to give to anyone else. Those who hurt deep inside, hurt others. He is an imposter. Pretending he is about something but in reality he is not. Thus, Caesar's shadow, trying to emerge. In true narcissist form, if you pull back their mask to reveal their true 'fcked up' self,' they hurt you back and usually emotionally; thru emotional detachment, unexpected abandonment, or replacement. Though sex is involved, it is not truly about that, rather it is about the taking of emotions and someone's energy and time. He will replace her with someone who will give that to him because they are falling for his 'masked' self like Tati did in the beginning and Jada and all the others before that. He just does "love bombing"; constant attention, time and word play, pretending to be "head over heels in love". But, if that woman attempts to hold him accountable, for his poor behavior and devaluing or disrespectful actions toward her then he will stay in that stage with her only for a moment. He will discard her, try to flip things to make her look "crazy" and even conduct a "smear campaign" using other people (usually family or friends) to turn against her. They are called "flying monkeys". Similar to like the ones in the story "The Wizard of Oz" that the wicked witch used; they are sent out or used to do the narcissist's "evil" bidding. This in turn is attempted to make her doubt herself and ultimately become more emotionally exhausted and hurt. Basically like most narcs, Teddy is an "emotional vampire" who manipulates in a very clever and diabolical way. If she has codependency issues which developed from her childhood it will make it harder for her to walk away although he is doing what he does and it is obvious to all of us looking on the outside.
