listening to her playing, so many times I get the feeling there is no person there. Only the music, the spirit of music, the intention of the composer. This must be a noble, higher mind playing that piano.

The old lady with the children and myself being shown the toccata and fugue in D minor under a new light. A nice association, although I ceased to be a small child seventy years ago. Tatiana was a master musician and a lovely human being. Besides being one of the greatest piano players in history.

@@ayanalowe6886 Dear Ayana, I never met Tatiana Nikolayeva in person. I have never been in Russia. In fact, the first time I heard of her she was already dead. This did not prevent me from declaring my love for her, her music and her love for Russian children. I love her playing Bach and playing Shostakovich. And she was known to be a lovely, warm human being, besides being a world class piano player. Thanks for your comment.

@@jorgeurzuaurzua4011 Hi Jorge, Thanks for your quick response. So you are a lover of Tatiana's music like I am. I can listen to her all night. She played with so much truth and power and warmth. I am new to Tatiana's music, too. I play the piano and I sing. Do you play an instrument? I'll have to listen to Tatiana's Shostakovich.

@@ayanalowe6886 Dearest Anaya: I did have an early and short singing career. When I was seven (1948) I sang in the radio Al Jolson's song Swanee. More or less at the same time I saw the movie FANTASIA and fell in love with Beethoven's sixth symphony. I played the guitar and sang, not great but not awful either. My main interest has been classical (mostly Bach). I am now retired and quarantined and write short comments in youtube to fill my empty hours. I googled you - did not know the origin of your first name Anaya - and to my great surprise and delight I saw in the 55 Bar this fantastic descendant of Aretha and Ella, you singing soul, jazz and gospel!!!!! What a treat! Now I will have to fall in love with you! As to Shostakovich and Tatiana, you may find in youtube the 24 preludes and fugues by Shostakovich, played by Tatiana, there are also CD's available.

In the 1960s in my working class suburb of Detroit, we were exposed to the Leonard Bernstein Young People's Concerts. And they were broadcast on CBS, one of three nation-wide broadcasters in the U.S. I suspect that is not the case today, more's the pity. If music is ugly, it is played. You hear at the mall, in traffic, on high school and college campuses. But keep the faith; the beauty and genius of classical music is there if you want it. Accept no substitutes...
