Really like this advice on visualization. Looking down the sights of your drawn pistol in your home shouldn't happen for the first time when it really counts. Easy, economical and practical advice. I think its also especially important to consider in the dark, and watch how your various illumination options behave inside your home. Home field advantage can be powerful.....CAN.... be powerful, but only if you make so.

Yeah for sure. I could really relate to what she said about how this should feel awkward and uncomfortable to do this in your home. I have and it certainly does. This is the place we are at our most peaceful, secure, comfortable, and passive. Having to shift into a more forceful and even violent mindset in that environment is something that can be very jarring. Everyone should try this and not underestimate the effect it will have if they need to do this for real. A long time ago I went through my house clearing due to a noise in the night. I'm not even advising that today. I had no real experience doing it back then and I think I knew I had done almost everything wrong before I was even done. This is why we train and not just shoot paper on a range. Make it as real and as relevant as possible to situations you are actually more likely to be in. Love that tip of taking pics of your likely sight pictures and settings. If you are embarrassed to do things like this at a range just know that Paul Harrell (look him up) once set up a bed on a range to demonstrate shooting from under the covers. This was VERY enlightening. It was even raining out. The man is a pro and has probably the best channel of it's kind. Anyway, keep training realistic to your clothing and other factors as well. When you are home are you dressed like at the range? Not saying you need to wear underwear at the gun club, though if she did it I'm sure no one would complain. Just saying maybe do your dry fire practice runs around the house as you would be dressed if you were home. Slippers instead of boots, no holster, etc..

Tatiana, I watch a lot of KZbin vids by Paul Harrell and just subscribed to your feed. I am a Combat Veteran and saw one of your clips and thought "hey she really knows her stuff" I like how you build in practical gun application and potential reality into your clips. So I am a new subscriber...we can never learn to much about weapons and how to use them. As I watched this one, one thing occurred to me...the question of "How to Handle Yourself When You are Awaken by a Potential Threat in Your Home?" Thank you. Terry Justin Texas

I like the concept of taking photos of your house and bringing them to the range. I will have to try this.

Good advice. Folks need to be able to overcome that surreality of drawing their firearm in their home for defense. A lot of people put on their "game face" when they get to the range, only. You need to be comfortable wearing that "game face" in all circumstances of your life.

What's weird is that people feel the need to perform ad hominem attacks on someone giving good instruction. It's a bit more noticeable since the ad hominem attacks don't seem to happen as consistently to those who grow tactical beards and wear baseball caps.

Good points but misses a vital aspect of home defence..possibly because it's hard to train for on a range; namely shooting up and down stairways, probably 40° off the horizontal. Natural instinct once your family is secure is to strong point the stairs...they can have the TV and microwave, it's better than getting in to a firefight directly below my daughter...

lol... measuring distance. Or, just learn to shoot. Bust out the camera, get the whiteboard out, create a battle plan. Just all that planning. Then, real life. You're scared as shit you're going to die. "How does that feel????" Feels scary.

*Most firearms instructors have never been in a gun fight, included the most respected ones.* *What background is needed according to you?* *Backgrounds in the military or police usually have nothing in common with home defense and civilian tactics btw.* *Experience in small unit tactics is irrelevant when you are by yourself at home.*

tag1out Your comment only shines light on your ignorance. Did I say I was an expert? I like to share ideas with prepared community. 1 million views isn't bad. Maybe you should get some balls and share your expertise other than rolling around on the floor with other boys. I will look forward to your video.
