Stejnou Tatru jsem před asi 40 lety viděl jet k zásahu. Přejížděla napříč tramvajové koleje, které byly v rovině, měly nájezdy, ale byly vyvýšené o víc jak 10cm oproti silnici. Tam se jezdilo stěží čtyřicítkou a osobní auta to dokázalo pořádně rozhoupat. Tatra jela možná k sedmdesátce, bál jsem, že se rozpadne. Kola propružila a Tatra se jen trochu zhoupla. Krásnej pohled.

Tak v této CASce, akorát ve 148, jsme se na vojně koupali. Vlezli jsme tím malým poklopen dovnitř a parádní bazén s vodou po ramena, i když jsem měl zpočátku trochu klaustrofobii.

Look at the rear tires at the end as he is driving it around. It looks like 4 wheel independent rear suspension! And what a sound. Pure male exuberance!

Tatra used swing axles all around. Seeing them off road, you could see the camber changes as they rolled over obstacles. Something to see.

Wow, by seeing the enormous size or that air-cooled diesel V8, I'd think it'd have much more than 180 hp? Hahaha 😁 but I guess what actually matters, especially for a 20 ton loaded fire truck, is the low-end torque, especially for off-road applications! But wow, such a very cool fire truck 🚒! It's Tatra's 928 engine - an aircooled V8 Diesel. But you are right the aircooled Deutz V8 engine looks very similar. I think it could be because the first aircooled Tatra and Deutz engines were both developed at around the same time during WW2

It's crazy to think an 11 litre V8 only makes 180hp. And although 500 lb-ft of torque is decent for a modern passenger truck, for a truck this size it doesn't sound like enough. However, the gearing on this thing must be so short, it won't go fast at all, but it will pull a mountain if needed.
