In this video I show you how to make a vintage edging from start to finish. The pattern can be found on my blog (www.leblogdefrivole.blogspot.com) in the Patterns section.
Or here is a direct link to the pattern: docs.google.co...
The threads I am using are Lizbeth Easter Eggs and Green Orchid Med.
The lace of the little doily you see in the background was made with Lizbeth threads Spring Green and Tropical Punch.

Oh my, I have a ball of size twenty threat in pretty spring colors. This would be a lovely shuttle and ball pattern. These little tatalongs are just the thing to keep hands busy. Our grandmother's took comfort in fancy work like this in troubled times. Thank you for your videos and patterns. Tiffany

So very kind of you to share the pattern for free....after finally learning how to shift the stitch, I have been practicing with easy borders...I'm trying to get into the habit of using your hand movements to work fast...I have the "under" movement sorted, but I'm still working on the top movement...and I slowed down your videos so I could see how you snag the shuttle thread with your right hand fingers....still, because I'm shifting the stitch to my left fingers and making sure I've done them correctly, I don't transition smoothly to the "over" stitch as you do...I think you also manoeuvre the finished stitches with your left middle finger so that you can go straight to the "under" stitch .... it's amazing watching you!!!! You are my benchmark on how to tat fast, and I'm recommending your tutorials to my friends who want to learn .......thank you so much💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓

Hello, glad to know you are making progress with tatting. How to end depends on what you are making but in this case, you would join back at the beginning, tie your threads and hide your ends. I like to use "magic loop" to hide my ends and have videos that demonstrate that technique (you can find them on my channel). Good luck! :-)

I love this! I am attempting a hankie. Do you have suggestions for how to work in new thread of either color?
@11Frivole
@11Frivole 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Margaret, there are many ways to add thread depending on the circumstances (where in the work you run out). Your question has made me realise though that I do not have specific videos that show how to do this - I think it will be next on my list! I think I have shown how to add thread in some of my videos (there is one specific one where I show how to add thread when working with bare threads here: ekzbin.info/www/bejne/hKepin6bg9lrrZI) but I should do some videos specifically to demonstrate adding new thread. Watch this space! :-)

I would love to see how you made the edge so neat and clean to attach the tatted edge to it. I have sewn and crocheted around and it never looks that lovely. I love to make tatted edge hankies but my 4 yr old likes to steal them and is a bit rough sometimes so anything to make them last a bit longer would be very helpful.

I love this! I will go and get the pattern from your blog. Are you able to tat for longer periods of time now? Thank you! Did you machine embroider the lavender leaves on your cloth doily? I also love your crocheted cuffs! Are they attached to a full garment or ? I, too, crochet, machine embroider, knit and more.
@11Frivole
@11Frivole 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Maria, sadly no, still cannot tat for any length of time. The decorative stitch is machine-embroidered and also serves to hold the folded edge in place. The cuffs are wrist-warmers so not attached to anything. They were a very pretty pattern from a Molly Makes magazine (Issue 10). And yes! Like you, I enjoy all needlework really! :-)

What bobbins do you use? I got some aerlit ones but the thread is so hard to spool off them (they use a bobbin) that it is actually hard on my hands. You don't seem to be having that problem.
@11Frivole
@11Frivole Жыл бұрын
I use Aero shuttles with their own bobbins or with Aerlit bobbins. I have to admit that I also had problems with Aerlit shuttles in that they seem to be too tight at the beginning but end up being too loose after a while. I find I do not have tension problems with Aero shuttles.

Thanks so much for this pattern and the video tutorial!! Loved the method of hiding the thread ends!!! My question is, does one need to alter the pattern for a straight line lace versus an oval shaped curved lace versus an absolute round lace?
@11Frivole
@11Frivole 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, thank you for your comment, I'm glad you like the video. I have not modified the pattern for the oval that you see so it would work for a round too as there is some flexibility in the design... unless your circle was very small so the curve was much tighter and then yes, maybe then, you might need to modify a bit.

I’m still new to tatting and working on this edging. I love it so far, but I’ve noticed that mine starts to curve around (like for a round doily) when I want to make it straight for a handkerchief edge. Any thoughts on how to fix this going forward?
@11Frivole
@11Frivole 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Laura, it could only need a bit of blocking to keep your edging straight or it could be that you need to snug some of your stitches on the side that curves outwards a bit tighter (depending which way your edging is curving). If you really have problems, you could always add a stitch or two (or remove one or two) on one side. It's a little difficult for me to say anymore without seeing how you tat.
