Hello sweetie, I hope you are feeling better... I just want to give you an advice. You don't touch the needlepoint, not with your fingers nor with a measuring thing, you can't touch it at all... NOT!!!! Otherwise you will give your person a big infection... I know you don't do it on a real person. But it's better to learn it the right way immediately. Good luck with your tattoo adventure... lol

Ok seriously, to all the people saying they are disappointed in this video because their kids watch it. Jackie has said many times that she is not a kids channel. She is an artist and a crafter, she is not here to educate your kids on what to do in their lives, she is an adult and she has the right to video whatever she wants.

As a tattoo artist, you wipe every time you lay down a line, as well as going over the line multiple times. Angling the needle is also key, making sure not to blow out the skin. Also don’t forget to shake your inks and get MUCH more than you need. More is more with inks and you’d be surprised how much we use up while wiping. It’s all about time, a steady hand and repetitive motions.

As someone who spent a long time as a tattoo apprentice, it hurts me to think about how easy it is for people to buy tattoo machines (especially cheap and poor quality ones) and try to use them without having any of the knowledge you gain when you spend a lot of time in an apprenticeship with an experienced artist. There’s so much that it’s important to know and understand fully before you even use a machine on fake skins for the first time. I think this video shows well the immense knowledge gap, and illustrates why people absolutely shouldn’t try to just buy a tattoo machine and go for it. I worry that there’s not enough emphasis on the fact that people really shouldn’t be trying this without knowing what they’re doing. To anyone looking at the comments of this video who is interested in learning to tattoo, please work on building a portfolio and find yourself an apprenticeship. Also, Jackie, GLOVES GLOVES GLOVES pleeeease.

@AnotherMADCreation 2 жыл бұрын
@@chrom0xide123 no. The needles are clean, unused, and sterile when you get them. They are completely clean and were probably checked by a laser of some sort on the factory for any defects, but that's it. They are never used prior to being opened by the artist, not even to quality check them. The theory that the skin changes color so you can practice without wasting expensive ink is probably the most likely answer.

Right? It's almost like limiting the sale of adequate, safe tattoo machines forces people to resort to using the unsafe, horrible quality machines that are available to them. Similarly, the lack of adequate instruction available online forces people to have t9 figure it out on their own, which seems to be the exact thing that tattoo artists are trying to prevent. We have been through this time and time again with the war on drugs and prohibition, and yet people still haven't learned that limiting safe access to something doesn't stop people from doing what they want to do, even if it is seriously unsafe. No one who dreams of being a tattoo artist will be swayed by only having access to sketchy machines and equipment, because that's better than nothing, and no one who doesn't already dream of becoming a tattoo artist will shell out $500+ dollars on proper tattoo equipment simply because it is available to be purchased. This is why harm reduction strategies will always be more effective than simply reducing access and/or making it illegal.

I have a tattoo I hate right on my chest that I got the exact second I turned 18. I loved my original design, but the artist was just who was working that day and he was high af (I didn’t know what that looked like until several years later, so I didn’t know), and he pushed me into a design I didn’t really want but I was too shy to say anything. Lots of scarring, several places blown out, colors faded (even though I don’t go in the sun at all as I’m homebound), and just a design I’m not happy with. I wish like hell I could cover it, it goes shoulder to shoulder, neck to boob, but I’ll never have the money for it. There’s always much more important things to put money towards when I do have some extra, which isn’t often since I have to survive on eight thousand dollars per year (ssi/ssdi) and I’m not able to travel to any of the artists I would trust, even if I could afford them.

I've never tattoo'd before, but I worked at a tattoo parlor as a teen. SO MANY THINGS WRONG!! haha but is understandable. You have to wipe in-between colors to clean the skin. Otherwise you get what happened here, black in the all the colors. they will contaminate each other if not cleaned properly. You also want to wipe as you go, so that you can see where you are penetrating the skin, otherwise it's patchy. Last thing, change the needle (this is why artists typically have more than 1 machine), if you look at the video you watched to pick up the color, his needle has like 10-20 points to it. That is a coloring needle. The one you are using is kind of for outlines only. I am no expert, and never trained to be a tattoo artist, but was around them for about 3-4 years in my later teens, so take everything with a grain of salt :D

Very good advice. Just wanted to add, there are lining needles and shading (fill) needles. Trying to do the fill with a lining needle will a) take forever b) come out patchy c) hurt like hell when tattooing a person. Also, and I cannot stress this enough, DO NOT tattoo anyone with the inks that came with the machine. They are temporary at best and toxic at worst.

I‘ve had lots of tattoos done, and i remember my tattoo artist cleaning the excess off before moving on to the next color. I‘ve also learned that the needle needs to go a certain depth into the skin to ensure that the colors don‘t get easily wiped off nor fade too quickly over time. It‘s really a skill that requires a lot of muscle memory to get right.

I was totally expecting something other than actual tattooing - but I'm kinda glad that Jackie showed how hard it is to do well! There's a reason why good tattooists get a reputation and a following - they have either years of practice or awesome skills, and it shows in their artwork! All the tattoos I've seen done, there's always a lot of splash. I think it's because you need to load the ink heavily to get good coverage. I'm wondering how many more tattoos Jackie has now...! 🤣

The most painful part of getting a tattoo, for me, is when they wipe, which seems to be ALL THE TIME. They definitely use paper towels and wipe constantly, and go over the same area often until the color is saturated. So my advice would be to wipe as you go! Do a small section, wipe with the alcohol mixture, then continue. You can use Vaseline to help make it smoother also!

This was a fun video to watch, I'm glad you chose to work on fake skin first, I've also seen people use fruit because obviously if the go too deep the fruit will spray them. I know lots of people mentioned this, but before trying out the other kit it might be good to get a shader (not a tattoo artist, just someone with tattoos), that way you can have a proper go at colouring. My tattooist would also wipe pretty regularly, especially since when someone is tattooing an actual person there's at least a little bit of human-juice (dunno if my comment will get flagged if I use the actual word so I'm not going to) which makes it harder to gauge what things look like. I've got 3 tattoos, a big colourful Stitch (from Lilo and Stitch) cuddling a baby goose on one thigh, a big, colourful, sleeping gen 1 style My Little Pony of the other thigh, and a heart on the back of one of my shoulders. My two thigh tattoos are actually cover-ups over scar tissue though, and I really need (and I'm not exaggerating here because my sensory issues make summer a nightmare so it is a need rather than just a want) to get two full sleeve tattoos to cover the scar tissue there, I can't leave my bedroom without long sleeves on even in really hot weather because I can't handle it if people say mean stuff to me or glare at me because of how I look, my leg tattoos gave me the ability to wear shorts which I'm so so grateful for though, because before it was jeans or long skirts as well as long sleeves. I want one sleeve tattoo to be magical girls and anime stuff very cute style, and the other to be naturey with pagan stuff and in an art nouveau style because that's two sides to my personality. I also want to add to my thighs, one is Disney animal/critter themed, and the other is cute toys and cartoons. It's expensive though so I'm really just hoping I can figure something out because I'm so miserable, especially since I love fashion and can't wear lots of things I want to wear rn. Really hope you're feeling better after the procedure you had done, and that it gives you some relief going forward!

As my ex best friend was a tattoo artist one that machine is wack, two tension is super important, three clean the skin as you go and layers are important. It usually takes layers to build up the color but you have to be careful to not go to hard and damage skin. If you clean the skin as you go you can tell where you need to work at and you won't accidentally blend two colors.

Jackie! I was so excited to see you post about a real tattoo gun, I was thinking about getting one myself! I'm glad you showed me what to expect if I mess up, and that I didn't have to spill ink everywhere myself😂 Thank you for being you :)

Not sure whether anyone's mentioned this, but the Art No. on the needle packaging tells you what kind of needle it is, L is a liner needle, S is a shader (shaders are better for filling in, like with paint brushes) and the 3 at the end (1203) tells you it's a 3 needle liner, the more needles, the thicker the line. :)

My colleague is a tattoo artist and all this time I thought that the needle goes brrr and she just draws on skin, just like an ink drawing, nothing unusual besides the tricky surface. But the assembly process made my head spin so now I have enormous respect for Jackie, my colleague, other tattoo artists and their machine assembling skills.

I just want to emphasize to people not to get these and use them on actual human skin. Especially since the inks from Amazon and similar sites aren’t regulated and can give you gnarly infections or allergic reactions and could contain toxic ingredients. Now, if you want to get these and plan on only working on fake skin? Maybe eventually get good enough that you make art with it that you hang up? Have at it. Enjoy yourself. But if you want a real tattoo, *please* go to a professional. I promise it’s worth the money, time, and effort. And if you want to be a tattoo artist on real people/clients, *please* apprentice with a professional. It is also worth the time and effort.

I can def attest to the Be very careful buying inks on Amazon ...I stupidly did and it was a cheap Chinese brand that had alot of bottles( 20) for around $20.00 or more .I tattooed my lower left side of my calf "A giant red heart" .At first it looked so vibrant and filled in .Within a few hours it was becoming irritated and got a rash ,the next day it was very sore and even had puss ,also the ink was bleeding out .My skin def had an allergic reaction .It took about a month+ to look somewhat normal .When it was healed I took the time to research quality inks from well known makers and purchased them from a reputable tattoo supply company online.Tattooed the calf again and what a difference ..no problems healing .👍🏻

@@carolyn6689 Yikes, I’m so sorry that happened. I’ve heard some really bad stories from people that’ve used those inks. And you’ll never know why or how you reacted to them because they’re so unregulated that you don’t know what’s in them. In the US the FDA doesn’t regulate tattoo inks (though they should), so manufacturers don’t have to list ingredients on them like other cosmetics do. And with cheaper inks, you run the risk of them not being sterile at all and containing bacteria. People have gotten skin infections, cellulitis, and sepsis that way. And I’ve heard of some Chinese inks using things like cheap printer toner or car paint as pigments rather than tested and known safe natural pigments that are more expensive.

@@Annie_Annie__ Thank you so much.🙏🏻I got so lucky that my body rejected these inks right away and they pretty much came out all the way probably because I didn't get a fever or any other physical symptoms but what I experienced from the beginning.I tried to take proper care of it and keep it from getting any bacteria in it .Luckily it didn't leave scarring .So very scary about the possible contaminants in the inks on Amazon from the various companies here and abroad. They really should regulate them somehow.I learned my lesson for sure.👍🏻

Hi! I'm a young tattoo artist who tattoos my dad and here is a few tips to help you! You should use a shader needle and when you need to wipe the ink use warm dawn dish soap and water mix in a spray bottle to take off the ink! When you finish an outline you NEED to clean it to see what you missed! Also check to see if you can find a new powerbox or a new tattoo pedal! Trust me I learned the hard way haha. Also if you want a cleaner design you can use stencils with a product called stencil stuff, recipt paper, and a pen and you can wipe it on so its a cleaner design! I really hope these help you.❤❤

@@nini_13434 I think it’s a question of interpretation! I have a Muslim friend who doesn’t wear nail varnish ( something to do with not modifying the body Allah gave you) and one who does. The one who doesn’t also wears a headscarf and the one who does her nails doesn’t wear a head covering. Not an expert by any means, but I see it like the Christian/Biblical command that women cover their heads in church. For some, your head is covered in hair, so nothing else needed, for others, hats/headscarves are essential.
