Dean is a great storyteller and we learn about the history of tattooing, through the eyes of a master.
Dean Schubert has been tattooing in Humboldt County since 1995. He and his Wife own and operate Humboldt’s longest running tattoo studio, Visual Tattoo , in Arcata. He is an enthusiastic collector of tattoos, having a body suit consisting of the work of over 35 artists. He began tattooing in San Francisco in 1993. A native of Milwaukee Wisconsin, he has spent most of his adult life in Northern California. Dean’s work can be seen on humans around the world.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

im a Pacific islander! the guy at 2;50 thats a painting of a guy frm the regional islands frm my islands in Micronesia! he was actually a son of a chief! they took him him to Europe as a piece of item as a showcase to the people of Europe!! today in my islands we now look at tatooing as something bad !! but we of the new generation are fighting to bring it back! because the missionaries that came to our shores they also abolished our way of dancing & chants!

Tattoos violates teachings from Christ. Jesus taught that we should not mark ones body...ie do not tattoo. As you noticed, the further people went away from the church, tattoos gain popularity. And here in the western world, people are not as religious as we once were. But, when the time comes and the public returns to the teachings of Christ, tattoos will once again go bye bye...
