Is the cirus ultra really quantum pro. Have looked on rab website and couldn’t find any mention of pro. I am hoping you are right and an oversight on their website.

Hi thank you for your comment, this appears to be a mistake on RABs website that we will inform them about. I can conform the Cirrus Ultra uses Quantum Pro.

Great to see a comparison. Interesting that you’ve weighed the DAS light and it’s come out lighter than the manufacturer’s figure (346g), normally it is the other way round!
@gnarshar3 ай бұрын
When comparing the insulation of the DAS light vs the Cirrus Ultra there seems to be a mistake when commenting on the amount of fill. The DAS light mentions it has 65 g/sqm of pluma fill vs the cirrus having 247g of thermoplume total. Considering a jacket uses about 2sqm of fabric the DAS light probably has somwhere close to 130g of plumafill.

Very good review. Really appreciate all the details. You’re very thorough. Of the three jackets, I only have the Oreus. But I also think the jacket fits a bit more snug than other jackets (from Mountain Equipment). It is nice and warm, but it’s a little bit shorter in the body than other ME insulation jackets I have. If I was belaying in really cold weather, I’d probably go for the Fitzroy or the Citadel. However, if I wanted a jacket to do it all, (outer layer, mid layer, and a puffy for breaks) I’d probably go for the Oreus. If it was really really cold, I’d do as Tom Livingstone, and use the Oreus under a down parka. See the theme here? I don’t like to freeze 😁 ATB from Norway 🇳🇴

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Fit is such a unique area of discussion since we are all different its good to see that this could be a common theme to make people aware of. I also noticed the length especially when comparing it to the other two. That's really insightful, I'm going to pin your comment to help others looking!

What is the best out of these 3 jackets for active cold weather insulation for activities like scrambling and climbing that also requires abrasion resistance?
@tauntonleisure18 күн бұрын
In my opinion the Oreus would be the most versatile active layer our of the three.

Heres a good question for ya. Best brand! Quality, durability, functionality and Ease of use. ( draw cords, hoods, pockets and front zippers) thanks
@tauntonleisure4 күн бұрын
Great question! It’s really difficult to say that one brand is the outright best because each excels in different areas. Quality, durability, functionality, and ease of use can vary not just between brands, but between models as well. A big factor is fit-what works perfectly for one person might not suit another. Personally, I’m really liking Mountain Equipment at the moment. They’ve been producing some outstanding kit and really pushing the boundaries with design and materials. That said, my colleague prefers Rab for its consistent quality and fit, especially for those who like a slightly less tailored cut (though this can vary depending on the jacket). In the end, it often comes down to personal preference, body shape, and the specific features you prioritise. Thanks for your comment!

@tauntonleisure totally understand! I have been a huge North Face fan for like 25 years. But I think their quality has gone down. I don't think there as technical as Rab. I haven't seen much on ME. I started with Rab when I saw their product on MT Everest. And I started digging into them. For me, I like their design, and the products they make for what I do. ME looks good so far but I feel with Rab, they have more products I can choose from..both look like they focus on engineering a garmet, unlike North Face. Thanks for the feed back. I just ordered the Cirrus Ultra. I get it tomorrow. Just 1 question about it. How's the bottom cinch cord? I don't see the adjustment, is it built into the lower hem of the jacket?
@tauntonleisure4 күн бұрын
@@miketorre16 It's tucked in under the base of the jacket to avoid it becoming a snag hazard. I believe it's got a 2-point adjustment, one on each side. We do have a specific video on it you can check out

compared with the Arc'teryx Nuclei Sv, Cirrus Ultra is warmer?
@tauntonleisure13 күн бұрын
Thank you for your comment. While we no longer stock Arc'teryx and are unable to directly test the Alpha Nuclei SV alongside the Cirrus Ultra, I can provide a rough comparison based on the materials and insulation used. The Cirrus Ultra features 247g of insulation compared to the 190g found in the Arc'teryx Nuclei SV Parka, which would suggest that the Cirrus Ultra is likely warmer. Additionally, the Cirrus Ultra incorporates Tilt technology-a reflective scrim designed to retain body heat by reflecting it back towards you. From these specifications, the Cirrus Ultra appears to offer better insulation and heat retention on paper. However, as we no longer carry Arc'teryx, we can’t provide real-world comparisons. I hope this helps!

How breathable is the Oreus for higher aerobic activities?
@tauntonleisure17 күн бұрын
What kinds of activities are you thinking of so we can offer the best reply?
@realdeal57717 күн бұрын
@@tauntonleisure I was thinking about the Oreus vest as a stand alone outer layer for trail running in cold temps.
@tauntonleisure17 күн бұрын
@realdeal577, I believe the Mountain Equipment Oreus Vest could work well for trail running, though I haven't personally used it in that context. My experience is with the full jacket, which I've found comfortable during high-output activities, even when producing a fair amount of body heat. I would recommend considering the Mountain Equipment Switch Pro Vest. It's lighter and more breathable, which could be better suited for high-intensity activities. It really depends on the conditions you're running in and how much insulation you need.

I wonder what the functional difference is between the cirrus ultra and rab nebula pro, weight seems to be similar.
@tauntonleisure3 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. The main difference is the insulation type. The Cirrus Ultra uses Thermoplume, which better mimics down, offering a superior warmth-to-weight ratio, improved pack size, and better temperature regulation. The Cirrus Ultra also employs tilt technology, which further adds to the jacket's warmth.

The 2020 verison of he DAS light was 320grams and the new verison is extra 20grams so 340grams, but you get an inside drop pocket and waist adjustment for 2024. Been cool if you could have put the Arc'teryx Men's Nuclei Hoody in there too. Guess longer video.
