Taur Review - RNG causes Rant!

Summary: It's a missed opportunity this, sure it's playable and at times great fun but for £20 that is just not good enough. If they fix some of the following issues then yes it would be worth buying and I would even re-review it as I did enjoy it at times. RNG removal from main weapons, have incremental + stats like most games do. Grinding for RNG crystals to spend on a RNG forge is a joke! Reload times are way too long, it does not engage the player and kind of makes many of your turrets a waste of time. Put the damn towers back where they were after you die, it has a "R" key to replace towers but it does nothing after you die. Add more maps, having the same recycled 4 or 5 maps over and over is very boring. Endless mode is a must for these type of games. Death spiral is annoying, you should be rewarded something when you lose. I personally think 4 crystals would be enough, six just gives RNG more scope to shaft you and it does, a lot. Nice idea, poor execution.

@@zzkzz7727 That is because it's there to compliment the build that you will decide to use. Game isn't boring at all. It's pretty good and has some difficult battles at certain points. Maybe you're too addicted to diablo or who knows what. Other than the problem with the online mode, which I think is now fixed, the game is good. The only thing that I hate is that you have to click on every enemy. It's not like diablo where you keep your mouse pressed and your character will hit whatever was underneath your cursor.

I thought it was common knowledge that willful progression was the way to keep players interested. You can have things be a bit more expensive in terms of resources as long as the player knows how to get that resource and once they have enough they 100% get the reward they(we) had in mind.

Different style of game I know but I play Elite Dangerous and the original RNG on upgrades for weapons, shields, engines etc pushed me out of the game. They stopped the RNG and I went back and the bad times are behind me and have spent money on cosmetics, not something I would have done while frustrated by upgrade RNG. So there is no way I will touch any game that uses RNG beyond tiny adjustments for upgrading my attack/defence options.

Info for developers of this game: * Multiply all reload times by 0.33 * Rework Reforge (MUCH less RNG please! NO negative effects after reforging!) * Tone down Bloom effect a little bit. It makes you game looking cheap. * Add 3+ new maps

To be fair, some of the devs probably think they made a really good game, and from what I can remember most of them were right. They just included a handful of design decisions that killed the game like this dev did, or the game was early access and simply not 'worth a buy' just yet, etc.

7:55 Does "[R] Rebuild all structures" not work? I'd understand if you looked over it, happens to me as well. Alternatively, I might be wrong in assuming that pressing [R] will rebuild whatever you had in the previous run. You've already got back the bank you need build the towers, so maybe [R] just gives you more heat - heat from the cops? But if you get caught, you will lose half of your bank and half of your rep, which isn't good... Either way, have you tried it? (and if you did: Did it rebuild or do something else?)

there are few ways to improve the game: -have more mission options available -have a non linear unlock tree -scrap some of the damn useless resources or make a way to convert them into other ones

It's weird that they don't give you an option to save your turret config... Like have 3 presets or something and when if you're using preset 2, then any changes you make gets saved to preset 2.

btw its not manual if you read it before in the top right idk if you already skip it but during in BUILD MODE if all of you structures was destroyed you can just press R Rebuild all Structures and it will automatically be place to what it was before lol and i already finish the game.

Not sure when he tested the game but I just played last night and you get full resources for a mission win or lose. The should allow you to sell a structure and rebuild on the same match. Oh and the RNG really isnt that bad when it comes to gems. I didnt bother reforging much. Maybe that's why he lost. Spent everything on his main cannon too early.

I feel like RNG is a cheap cheap tacky way to give a game a feeling of unpredictability. Rather than put effort into clever design and intelligent options for a player, who can then make good or bad decisions themselves, they just lump everything on RNG. This reforge mechanic reminds me of Metin 2 back when people were playing it. Every trip to upgrade your weapon through the Smith could end up loosing your best sword that you have been grinding for hours. Happened to me once. I've not played the game ever since.

I tried brainstorming a tower defense idea (because im a no life gamer that's also a gaming enthusiast with no self esteem to learn how to make things reality) I wanted a replayable TD that doesn't feel like one strategy fits all. so I looked to randomizing things and oh boy that would never work. What you see here was worse then what i thought. RNG rolls to get the upgrade you want? no i hate that so not that. But it'd be hard to ballance a game where every tower you get is random and every enemy is random. So i came up with 2 solutions: 1. The enemies are random but you get access to every tower. The problem with this is for me it'd be overwhelming and im a fan of progression. and this would still be a one strat works thing. If it was towers that were random it would still spell trouble. imagine getting a sniper and you face the grunts. no big deal. where's your aoe when there is a swarm of them? so onto #2 that is a good concept for dealing with rng [devs if you read comments make something with this but if i ever make anything i thought of it first :P 2. RNG starts you off with a random tower. Every tower in the game is good against an enemy group it's paird with. so for slow bursts of fodder enemies you could use a slow firing splash dmg weapon. for fast enemies you'd get a slowing weapon. it could even just be a modifer. maybe some enemies share things who knows. So that's that and to make progression fun all enemies and towers are ballanced so that you can have different tiers of each. that way you have a weapon ready to fight the enemy you encounterd it at the right level. but remember you won't see it again so be careful what you upgrade. end of rant and don't steal my idea if i end up making it.

Awful upgrade system designed to waste your time. No, I'm not going to pay to spin your wheel dozens of times hoping to get what I paid for. Defense Grid is from a decade ago. Know how it handled upgrades? They showed you how much you got on a bar if you paid for it, and after paying for it, it does exactly that much. No random BS.
