I am 86. I have been supplementing with taurine for at least two decades, at about 850 mg/day. I just recently passed 80,000 miles of cycling in retirement on my road bike. I am wondering if this level of taurine supplementation could be having a positive effect on my aging (??)

Why did I start supplementing with tauring 20 years ago, you ask. Taurine is lacking in a plant based diet and I was getting off the standard American diet and going whole food plant based. Taurine is lacking in most plants. It has many functions -- abundant in brain and heart. @@derekmcqueen4589

I am 69 years of age. I started taking 3 grams of Taurine, daily, 6 months ago. I feel stronger, more agile and sharper in my thought processes. It appears to work for me and I will carry on taking it. I feel more self-assured in ways I cannot quantify, I feel my reaction time and all round perspectives are akin to when I was forty. I am generally a fit person and have done manual work all my life, so I feel I have a head start in regards to fitness levels.

After learning about taurine only a few months ago, I started taking 3gm/day. I’m a small person, only 5’. I had become diabetic in 1999 and use 70/30 type insulin. Quite shortly after taking taurine, a few weeks I’d estimate, I gave myself as much insulin as I thought I’d need in the evening and woke up with low blood sugar (58). I can feel when that happens and it does wake me up, however it’s been a couple of years since I’d experienced low blood sugar. It happened a few more times so I’m careful not to give myself too much insulin. It seems clear to me taurine is the key 🔑. I’m 81, do remember this is my experience and I will continue on this path. I choose things this way: is it an experiment worth doing and this is an experiment worth doing for me.

Yes, I'm 64 and take 500 mg a day. But it has also helped my dog who has epilepsy and has been on Epiphen since being diagnosed. Unfortunately after 2 years it has stopped working so knowing it's safe for dogs and it's good for brain dysfunction I started her on it on December 15th and she hasn't had a seizure since. I have posted these findings on my KZbin channel (Just Kidding) and I'm doing regular updates for anyone else's dog that's on medication for epilepsy and it's stopped working. Taurine helped me control my atrial fibrillation (AFib). I had to take beta blockers, but they had some side effects. Beta blockers can slow your heart rate, even when you're exerting yourself, which can increase your risk of blood clots. I started taking 2 grams of taurine per day, and it helped to suppress my daily AFib symptoms. I have lone AFib, which means it's not caused by any other underlying heart condition. I'm so relieved to know that taurine supplements are safe and effective for people with AFib

Thanks. I recall Prof Yadav (Taurine Study) say that people who were in better health also had higher taurine levels. Yes, this is a correlation, but it prompted me to look for a taurine test. Turns out there is an established reference range in blood plasma for taurine and one can get tested as part of an amino acid profile. My test results are due soon. At 69 I've been taking a low dose (500 mg) of taurine for about 10 years as research suggested vascular benefits. I stopped taking it for a week prior to recent test, and plan to adjust my supplementation to bring into the upper part of reference range. Don't think it's wise to just extrapolate from mouse data and start blindly taking 6 grams a day. BTW, I was lucky in that I am almost vegan (11 years), just eat a little fish, maybe 2 cans of wild sardine a week, otherwise plant based with very little ultra processed food. So my taurine intake, supplements aside, was not high.

When I was studying human muscle protein synthesis back in the 1980s I was surprised to discover a very high level of free taurine stored in muscle cells. This was puzzling to me because in those days I thought its primary use was only to synthesize bile salts to facilitate fat absorption. I thought it was a "sink" to store excess sulfur from the amino acids methionine and cysteine which are toxic at high concentrations. At the time I did not know about all the other metabolic and physiologic uses and myriad health benefits of taurine. BTW I think the reason blood taurine rises during excercise is because of increased release from this muscle store due to increased blood flow through tissues of the large muscles.

A few weeks later I had my yearly checkup and my blood pressure was through the roof [ 216/102]. I never in my life had any sign of‘white coat syndrome’. After a bit of research I found that studies had been done, and as it turned out, only 5% of the female population can tolerate extra taurine. The rest of us get excessively high blood pressure. In stead of a benefit I am now happy if I get a reading of 170/80. So please attach a warning to women

OMAD or intermittent fasting and extended fasting kills senescent sells, no drugs needed. I tried metformin for anti-aging, felt horrible on it. I did try Sirolimus (Rapamycin) while in Mexico (I'm in my 40s) and I will say, that drug made me feel 20 years old again but the protocol was to take it once a week and I found that 3 days after a dose I'd get a horrific flare up of inflammation and brain fog (to the point I couldn't figure out what city I was in) so I probably needed to dose more often but there was no research to guide me in that so I stopped taking it. I'd also rather get my inflammation in check first.

We are stuck in the loop of some is good more is better trap. Need specific research on super supplimention of all the nutrients benefits anti aging or not. It may be 2-5gr is detremental if you are at a good status re your high grass finished meat diet??? TBD and this vid didn't clearify. Tnx tough! Best to all.

Twenty percent of people can not convert beta carotene to retinal A, which we all need. Only twenty percent of people can convert enough to fill all their needs. And retinal A comes from animal products. In order to make vitamin D from the sun, you need Cholesterol. Unfortunately, that's to the food industry and big pharma push of the still never proven lipid hypothesis, most people do not get enough. Not just vegans. Cholesterol is needed for making and regulating all hormones. Which is why the Korean Cholesterol Mortality Study, published in 2019, showed that when Cholesterol levels dropped below 200, the death rate for everything increases hard and fast. Over 12 million subjects. This is just the yip of the iceberg against veganism and the semi vegan death diets pushed by governments, the food industry, etc.

theres a machine at my gym called an S-force matrix and I do high intensity intervals on it, similar to hill sprints but easier on the joint. The first time i used i was almost passing out and almost needed to vomit from the exertion. I did i 3 times a week and by the second week i could go as hard as i wanted and i couldn't get the same muscle burn or loss of breath like the first and second time. I have been fit in the past but i'm curious what changes happened in my system to suddenly be able to tolerate that level of effort in my thighs which are the biggest muscle groups in the body. More mitochondria or suddenly waking up more of them, maybe they suddenly store more of the substances they need to function when more demands put on them. PS its 2023, you would think there would be more devices you can use while training to tell you what ur body chemistry is doing while you train or if you do physical work....ie do you need more, sugar, or are you dehydrated? maybe ur low on B vitamins. u put a sensor on ur tongue or u pee on a strip. Maybe you have a sensor implanted in ur belly that reads what ur blood is doing like those wearable blood glucose monitors CGM (Continuous Glucose Meter) I'm very disappointed they aren't subsidized by health care, atm they are $900 and you need a new attachment each month which is $400 in my state. Obesity is first worlds number one problem, 80% covid hospitalizations obese. PPS docs only pushed the Vax which barely worked and countless injurys yet zero push for supplements like this. D vitamins at least.

DR. HASHMI. First time viewer. 7-30-2024. I learned of Taurine one week ago. I have some specific questions, please Sir. I am not taking it for Age……although I will be turning 80 in 3 weeks. I, also, am not taking it for the several diseases I have. I AM taking it for my eyes which are heading me towards giving up driving within a year or so because of several eye diseases. I have been taking 2000 mg per day. Now, my questions : Is Taurine something that I ought to see an IMMEDIATE response ? I have NOT. Or, do you feel that Taurine is not going to have any help FOR my eye diseases at all ? ( Google says Yes. YOU may say No. ) Again, I have only been taking it for a week. Please, please respond, as I stay in a panic about my eyes. Thank you !

Being in panic about you eyes, is a good reason for you to start on Taurine 1gm orally twice a day. There is a preparation specific to the eyes called ( magnesium taurine B6 and zinc ) all in one capsule. If you decide on taking the eye supplement, then another 1gm of taurine is all what you need.

@@mamdouh-Tawadros Please let me ask, then…….Already I take 1,000 mg. TWICE a day. I already take zinc and I already take 4,700 mg.of Magnesium per day. I use an alternative doctor on the side who does kinesiology and he is the person who told me the specific amounts to take. As for the Taurine, I have been on it…….maybe a month…….and so far NO changes. I researched how long it might take to get into my system……research says it goes to work immediately. So, I am disappointed. Please ! Any more advice is GREATLY appreciated ! Thank you!❤️

For CKD, I would be concerned about the considerable possible acid load. Taurine is 26% sulfur, methionine 22%, and cysteine 26%. Eggs, meat, tuna, and casein protein are about 3% Met and 2% Cys. Excess Met and Cys get metabolically converted to taurine. So 3 gm of taurine is potentially equivalent to the Met + Cys in a whopping 60 gm of animal protein. I try very hard to keep my animal protein intake below 16 gm/day. Dr. H and MC, keep up the great work.

Taurine is available in many foods and feeding mice such a high doses and then measure the reaction doesn't say much of a smaller amount taken by human beings it seems to me. Americans are very focused on supplements, perhaps because they eat not very healthy with a lot of fast- and junk food. Most old people I know here and like me are still volkdancing and in their eighties( I am only 77) hardly take any supplements and are fine.Ofcourse we also get age related conditions but I guess, to die healthy at the end, will not happen anyway.
