I love the older Taurus Revolvers and collect those wonderful six-guns of the past. I use to be a Taurus snob until I acquired an early Model 80 and got to looking at the features on these early 70's production Taurus Revolvers. Now, I collect these great firearms! The linear lines traversing the cylinder flutes, topstrap area, and front sight of early Taurus revolvers are a treasured feature that "only" the early S&W Model 27 had. Thanks so much for showing us your early 65. Great video on a great six-gun from Taurus.

Yeah the older taurus (early 90's and older) are almost like they were made by a different company than todays firearms. I know that some competition shooters would do is buy a taurus revolver for cheap, get the insides deburred and smoothed out which was cheaper then since revolvers were king, and you'd get a gun on par with a Smith for a little cheaper.

Just bought one, a little older like yours, but a beauty. I look forward to shooting it and thank you for solidifying my love of the gun.

I got mine from my girlfriend. I traded my .357 Windacator with a 21/2 in barrel. She wanted a shorter barrel and I wanted another 4inch barrel .357.

I recently purchased a Taurus Model 84 at a local pawnshop. This is the adjustable sight .38 Special, deep factory blue, four-inch barrel, beautiful walnut service grips, and bearing a likeness to the old S&W Model 15 Combat Masterpiece on the outside profile. This is an early 1970's Spesco Revolver (AKA: Taurus 84). The Spesco is a Taurus Revolver with the gold-colored Spesco Falcon Logo on the medallions on the service grips. The Taurus folks explained to me the Spesco connection in that in the late 1960's and into the 70's, a middle man business out of Atlanta Georgia, took in Taurus Revolvers for resale under the Spesco Logo. This practice ended with Taurus setting up here in the USA for manufacture. Anyway, this Spesco Falcon is in reality a Taurus 84. This Falcon has all of the features present that are visible on this old Model 65. The service hammer reminds me of the old pre-war design S&W Model of 1905 service hammer. Humpback for single-action fire that was common in pre-war times for cops. They shot single-action fire at the range, instructed and drilled into the cops of that time the benefits of single-action shooting. The factory finish on my Spesco is a deep rich blue. The hammer, the topstrap, the front sight, the rear adjustable sight, and the cylinder flutes are decorated with "fine" linear lines traversing the cylinder flutes and topstrap are a sight to behold. I believe this expensive factory feature was to attract gun-buying customers. This offering only lasted a few years before being dropped out of expense issues. Even the original box, in excellent condition too, despite its age, came with my purchases. This box has the Spesco Falcon ID on it, with a spare set of spare grips (missing) that fit into the box nicely. The Model 65 of this video, is from the same time period of manufacture as this Spesco Falcon. I collect old Taurus revolvers now, I was a Taurus snob until I made a purchase of a much-used Model 80, made in the early 70's. This .38 six-shooter had been standard with a Security Company here in the US, before they replaced these and purchased the Model 82. After that purchase of my first Taurus the snobbery vanished. Great guns, they are, the older guns in particular.

I picked up a 65 a couple of weeks ago with the stainless finish for $299,,no letters in the serial number, the woman at Taurus CS told me that Taurus did not start using letters in the serial number untill 1981,so I didn't get an exact manufacture date, but I do know it was made before 1981,which is fine with me.It's dead on accurate and the trigger and hammer action is about as good as any Smith or Ruger I've fired.

I recently got an old Taurus 65, with the recessed cylinder and pinned barrel... I am very happy. It's a solid revolver. The only problem is that it's shooting 3" high and 1" to the left at 10 meters - both with .38 spl 158g and .357 158g. I believe if you shoot lighter faster loads, it can drop the POI. Im super anal about my guns being zeroed, so if that doesn't work, I'll take it to a smith and have the front sight raised by adding soldering. What type of rounds were you firing?

I've heard tell from older Taurus fans that their quality has gone up over the years. Taurus is slowly but surely beating it's hit-or-miss reputation by the sound of things Saving up for my first "big" gun, and this was the one that hit the mark for everything i wanted in a self-defense pistol. Got any tips for where i should look to buy used? Any particular website you're a fan of, or do you just go to your local gun shop and order there? Thank you in advance

Honestly.. anyone who hates the Taurus brand .. is neither a Revolver enthusiast, nor a real gun enthusiast. They just heard what was cool and ran with it. They’ve never fired a gun in “anger” or combat.. nor have they bothered to fire a gun for kicks, or “ fun”.

Wow, beautiful. Except for the shellac, it looks exactly like the one I stupidly exchanged a couple months ago. Every time I put the gun away, I'd tighten that ejector rod! Maybe I should have put a little blue Loctite on it.
