Sit right there and let me tell you a story of the Taurus 82, the 10000 round Taurus. Over the course of about a year I shot 10,006 rounds through this simple, plain Jane 38 Special revolver with zero failures of any type. The gun is a tank and I love it.

Great video I have an old Model 65 that is built like a tank and my EDC is a Taurus 856 Defender with a 3 inch barrel and an great front sight. I am 76 years old and a retired Deputy Constable that has carried Colt’s, Smith’s and Ruger’s in 375 Magnum but I prefer a Taurus because they shoot very well.

I had a Model 82 back in the early 80's or so. I don't know how many 38 Wadcutters I put through that gun but it was a bunch of them. Gun never faultered. The only "grip" I had was the wood grips looked like they'd been checkered by a guy on his first day on the job, and had been hacked out of an old 2X4. Other than that it was great. Oh, I didn't change the grips, just added a T-grip and went on about my business.

I lament daily, for trading in my Taurus 82, 3”, Service grip ( for those that remember what that was) with a Tyler “T” grip insert. This was one of the most accurate and reliable revolvers I have ever owned. Back then, in my 20s, I thought I needed a .357. Today, your video is confirmation for me to revisit obtaining a new 82. I currently posses 3 85s, 2 66s, a 92 and a 94. I whole heartedly believe in Taurus. Side note: I agree with another contributor to this forum. Bring the 82 or even the 65 back in a 3” Executive model.

The security company I work for has like 30 of the 82s in inventory. Most are older 80s or 90s made 82s and all the ones we have still work and the ones that broke down got replaced promptly by Tauras. Thease are what are isused out when a guard doesn't have his own handgun and they have done the company well. I even carried one for a while as my duty gun was at LTT they are much better than many people expect

Don’t know if it’s an old Taurus or new Taurus but picked up a model 82, 10-11 years ago for my mom at a gun show for like $180. Guy was selling several of them he’d got from a security company. It’s blued and I painted the front sight white put maybe 100 rounds through it gave it to her. She shot it some but it pretty much stayed in her night stand. When she passed away I gave it to my brother and we went and shot a box of ammo through it and it still worked just fine.

Ok where is the slow DA trigger pull to see if it carries up correctly after those rounds? Where is the before/after endshake measurements? Why not pop the side plate off and see how things have worn? 10k rounds is great and all but let’s see the specs of the gun now.

There are a few documented 75,000 round Smith N frames out there, I do believe they needed some minor replacement parts from time to time. Future updates at 10,000 round intervals would be cool. Smoke appears to be from cast bullet lube? If so, consider coated bullets. Much less smoke to obscure the target.

I also love my Taurus 82. It's an older generation one, but it's been bombproof. I wish Taurus would make a concealed hammer/DAO version with a narrow, non-serrated/polished trigger, chamfer the cylinders & have dovetails so you can put aftermarket sights or if it came stock with hi-viz night sights on it. I would buy such a gun in a heartbeat!

I own several Taurus Model 80 & 83 Revolvers. I started collecting the older Taurus Models, because of the fantastic cosmetic features that was provided by Taurus Manufacturing in those years (1970's). The features I speak of, for those unfamiliar, was the tight "linear lines" that traversed the cylinder flutes, the top strap, and around the front sight. I suspect that this cosmetic work was added for sales enhancement purposes. In the 1980's, I was able to purchase the early production Model 80 (standard bbl) and Model 82 (heavy bbl.) at local pawnshops dirt cheap. There were, and still are, a lot of Taurus snob gun owners, so there was not a strong market for older model Taurus revolvers. What was overlooked by these critics was those cosmetics offered on plain Jane fixed sight .38 Service Revolvers. The linear line feature was time consuming and expensive for Taurus to offer. This decorative feature mirrored exactly what the Smith & Wesson Company offered on their premier deluxe S&W Model 27 in pre-1980 times. The Model 27 was a high dollar .357 because of the workmanship and decorative linear lines offered on the cylinder flute and top strap.. The deep rich blue finish that the Taurus Company applied to those early models was done with care ad much craftsmanship. I own several older Taurus six-guns with the decorative linear lines (early 70's production). The linear line feature only lasted a few years before Taurus quit offering it, because of expense. The Model 80 and 82revolvers were cheaper alternative for security firms, bank guards, and some law enforcement agencies, that made large contract orders for revolvers for their officers. The cost savings was substantial over the competition (S&W, Ruger, Colt) and reliability and quality did not suffer with their Taurus 80 & 82 Models selected for purchase. I was a Taurus snob myself until I made a purchase on a well worn ex-security guard Model 80, one of the described early Taurus Model 80's, at a local gun show. It was dirt cheap, 100-dollars, and after I got it home and really started examining it. I became very impressed at what was being offered by Taurus in those formulating years. This was an early 70's production, replete with those beautiful linear lines, a still good blue finish, and decent trigger. Not S&W or Colt for sure, but passable for the law enforcement or security officer in need of a quality .38 Service Revolver for duty purposes. Thank you for this video very much. The current 82 is built like a German "tiger tank"and 10,000 rounds plus six does not surprise me. These are built to last. Were I still in law enforcement, the current Model 82 or Model 65 would suit me fine for duty carry. Excellent service revolver for the dinosaur revolver carrier still on duty.

Caleb i'd love to see Taurus offer a set of G10 grips design for the high web grip. The common target style grips on carry guns are giving bad cues to new revolver shooters IMO. They certainly did for me when I got into wheel guns.

I'd love to try Taurus's larger revolvers (the Model 82, 66, 608, etc), but I refuse to purchase a wheelgun with an internal lock built into it. I hope that Taurus opts to ditch that internal hammer lock for the US market sometime sooner than later. I'd also like to see some more partial underlugs in the Taurus revolver lineup, and I am curious how the Taurus 66 stacks up to the new Rossi RM64 as well.
